We have always had a machine in our living room for a few reasons - one, to make sure discs are okay - before we went computer, nothing was worse than having someone be all excited about singing a song and it didn't work right; second, when I was doing young people shows, I felt it was important to be familiar with the music and to catch anything that was off-color, and thus place it on the "don't even ask if you can sing this song" list. Third, nothing is worse than learning something from the original song, then shoot the karaoke music up on the screen and it is different. Just nice to know what's coming next I guess.
I don't learn as much new stuff as I used to. I find most people are happier hearing something they are familiar with, and too often FAR too familiar with, so if the rotation is light, I take requests and hand them out to the singers that are singing. I do get asked to sing new stuff - it affords the fraidy cats a way to become familiar with a song by singing along for a few weeks.
My grandkids enjoy "playing" karaoke and I have a collection of CDGs just for them, too, for when I've had enough of Lunar Jim and Dora.
Hubby and I both started out as just singers in the early '90s and it's nice sometimes to sit and go through new music when we get it (I still buy on CDG and upload onto computer).

I hadnt set up for bruddy ages till I got the new mixer and needed to test drive my ability to set up...glad I did cos it would have been a disasterous gig otherwise...to be honest its been a godsend having it set up cos it has given me back the enthusiasm I had for singing. So I guess the answer is yeah

I've setup for a few parties at home - obviously not the full system, just my original starter system.

I don't have a full blown setup at home, but have my computer & a nice studio mic (or handheld if I feel the need) for practice in my computer room. If wanted I could set up my spare PA to kick it up a bit.

![wave ](./images/smilies/emot-wave.gif) Welcome Neighbor! It truly is a small world. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA and still live here and consider myself to be an extreme karaoke hobbyist. There are many karaoke bars here with enthusiastic patrons but the majority of them have low quality sound systems which can be very disapointing if you love to sing. I also have a system in my basement that sounds great and the price is right on the drinks! My friends and i get together at least once a month and sing to the wee hours of the morning. I use alot of foam on the ceiling and carpet on the walls for sound insulation. Since you live in PGH a good local website to visit is www.pghkaraoke.com for venue listings and other things about karaoke. A friend of mine owns the website and does this just because he loves karaoke!

I have my original Singing Machine in my entertainment center and my desktop in my office plays zip files. Either one suffices for when I'm ready to sing. And since I try not to sing at my shows I often sing at home.

Just the 90W Duet for me, usually in my office. It's mostly for testing new CDGs or learning a new song. For home parties I set up an actual small event system...
