A dear friend of mine in the US is looking for a player that is very portable. Her last player's dimensions were 10x6x1.5 inches

can someone advise a really portable player so as my friend can continue doing her charity work and singing.

Thanks muchly

assuming you mean karaoke player ONLY. No mic inputs??

what I would tell your US friend is to take a karaoke cdg with them and go to a K-Mart or probably a walmart and try the cheapie dvd players. Many of them see the full subcode!

Either that, or go to Acekaraoke.com and check out their players. Not portable by any means.

Or try Ebay for the used portable players! LINK

Lon is right. Any DVD player under $40 will usually play karaoke. Most players from China or Korea will play most any format, including CD+G. I think they call it CD Extra now.

Yup, I picked one up at W/M - the cheapest, smallest one they had - brought it home and played the Finnish imported DVDs just fine. Added a switching box and presto...DVD karaoke.

Matt is definately correct. A friend of mine picked up a divx dvd player from the local Shoprite for under $30 and just for the heck of it I took one of my cdg's to their appartment and played it and low and behold the lyrics came up. When they replaced it with a dvd/vcr I jumped on getting it.

There ARE a few that don't... my new memorex cheapie DVD does read the CDG subcode where my old GPX didn't. Both about the same price for $30!

Although K-Mart and Walmart don't have it on their sites, I found it on ratshack...

The tech specs tab shows the dimensions, Vicki m'dear!

I picked up a top loading portable DVD player for about $75 a few years back that plays karaoke discs. The built-in display is about 7 inches wide and it came with all the cables needed to hook it up to an outside mixer and a secondary video display as well. I picked it up at a chain drug store called CVS.
