Hi again. I have about 16000 song files on my pc and I want to organize them so I can make song books from them. Does anyone use a good program they would recomend to me. I'm not a pc expert so I really would like something simple to use. Thanks,Wayne |

That many songs eh? So when you ripped them from CDG, did you name and label them in any specific way? |

Hey thanks RLTC, I know you posted that creator earlier but I've lost it. It looks great do you use it? Looks like it will really cut down on the size of song books. Rick |

But I did actually mean my question - my assumptions shouldn't affect whether I am helpful to a fellow member. |

Assuming that we are taling about karaoke files, from the command prompt type: cd \ and the press the "Enter" key and the type dir *.cdg /s /b>songlist.txt this will create a file with all your song names in a file called songlist.txt. Bring that up in a word processor and print. Just a suggestion.... yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! |

Rick Yes, I use it along with a couple of other Latshaw products. KJ Filemanager has saved me countless hours in the past, and am also now using it to organize my MP3 collection. I am very happy with the books created with Song List Generator. |

chip stanley sells a terrific songbook maker called ((gasp)) Speedbook. What's funny is the earlier version I got from him is called "Songbook"! If you have your songlist already in an excel format, he'll convert it for his songbook program! A tiny hint... his program (the last time I used it) didn't have the most up-to-date entries for just selecting discs... far easier for me to just do them manually. |

Yep.... except that even I don't use books anymore.... strictly kiosk-based. No books, no slips, no pencils, no binders and no complaints. Been this way for about 3 years now and just completed a "touch screen" interface for the program. Before anyone surmizes that some drunk will destroy your computer, it won't happen --or at least it hasn't happened to us in 3 years. NOR will there be a "line of singers" waiting to use it. That doesn't happen either, it takes seconds to pick a song. A few advantages though; (1) the club can keep the lights lower (darker) since you don't have to have enough light to read a book or write out a slip because the screen is illuminated. (2) nobody steals it OR spills a $2 beer on my $20 book. (3) no pages to reprint or stuff into protective sheets and then into a binder. (4) updates are done with a simple "click" so I can update it weekly or daily if I like. (5) the software will run on computers you can buy at a garage sale... from windows '95, '98 or even XP. Most of mine are on Windows '98 pentium II machines with a teensy 3 gigabyte hard drive. I rescued these from certain dumpster death when a company upgraded their network. I added a $29 wireless network card and poof! They can be placed anywhere in a club with no wires. So basically, I'm out of the "bookmaking business" and glad I am. |
