Devastated Current mood: crushed My life has been one of perpetual motion – I have spent my years endlessly busying myself with life's menial task with little thought on my part as to its inevitable ending. Aging never entered my thoughts: I was preoccupied with attempting to unravel the chaos that seemed to engulf my world. I was young. Then my world came crashing down, with the mere utterance of ten simple words. One early morning I entered a What-A-Burger in Pasadena, Texas. I had no earthy idea that this day, this minute, this moment in time was about to change my life forever. The cashier behind the counter, probably no more than seventeen years of age, gleamed a cheerful smile and asked what I would like to have this morning. I told her a black coffee. With her gleaming cheerful smile she turned, retrieved a cup, filled the cup with hot black coffee, and then turned back around to face me. With her gleaming cheerful smile she asked if there was anything else that she could help me with. I told her no thank you and held out my dollar bill to pay for the coffee. She looked up at me with her still gleaming cheerful smile and said, "Sir, you don't have to pay you're an old person". I felt life draining from my body; I suddenly acquired a gimp in my leg. I moved slowly toward the exit door. Upon approaching the door I caught a reflection in the door's glass pane. The figure facing me was that of an old man. To my astonishment – it was my refection – it was indeed me. She was right. With ten simple words I went from being a vibrant young man to an aged senior citizen. I have more to say on this subject but I've been up since seven thirty this morning and it's almost ten a.m. now - I need a nap. |

Embrace your oldness, dude. Revel in it! You get to be the neighborhood crank that yells at the kids to get off your lawn. Just stay away from Gemini...he don't like old people. |

Ages ago I was addressed as Uncle Jian now most young people just call me Grandpa. Yes it took me a while to realized I am there already. |

I coached a little league baseball team this year and it was weird to hear all these little kids call me "Mr _____". by the end of the year I had them calling me Mikey and all was well...all the kids at my kids school call me Mikey. To me thats the fountain of youth..the whole "Mr" thing is validation of ther fact that im over that hill. I have a 17 year old in the band im in right now and its feels great to be working with someone who is young enough to be my son. We have so much common ground that I feel I beat the aging "thing" and didnt turn into one of those "when i was your age" guys |

EJ, I was performing at the Pasadena Opry about a week ago and my wife decided she wanted to video my performance. I wish I had never watched it. Although I can still sing ok I look like an old man. I guess I just didn't realize it. Oh well, the band members aren't kids and neither is the audience. Actually the audience probably thinks I am quite young. Thanks for sharing your story. Us seniors need to laugh at one another every once in a while. |

Don't know bout you gents, but I'm proud of my white hair, battle scars and wrinkles......I'm also known for my nose-breaking invisiibly-fast left. Don't despair....a whole new batch of lady's become legal every year.....Many of them got a 'daddy' thang going on.........How do I know this?....Hey, heh.....I got pics and videos I've been told many, many times by younger women that they prefer older men because we are stable, productive, experienced, and proven providers/survivers.....All you gotta do as the older guy is be tollerant when they introduce you as their uncle...... and also remember girls just wanna have fun and not be judged:lol: ...Then also be willing to let them go when they decide to move on......(remembering there is a new batch every year helps in this) Be the 'Daddy' who lets them play and don't judge or find fault.... Now you know why my truck tags read "Yodaddy". |

I don't know when it happened, but one day I became "Ma'am". I don't know why being addressed this way bothers me, but it does. It is supposed to be a respectful way to address someone when you don't know their name, but it sounds like old lady to me. I have friends of all ages. The funny part of it is I feel comfortable with all of them. It's an odd thing getting older. |

I enjoyed aging! Sounds funny, but I've ALWAYS LOOKED older than I was. Since about age ten! When I was in High School, I was always the guy that went and bought booze for us kids. (not that I did it alot). But even now, when I look in the mirror, it's only the gray coming in that makes me look THAT old. 44 ain't too bad. I remember my dad at 39 and all the wrinkles he had. Course he smoked, and I've seen that really leather the ol' skin out in ALL my cousins! That and knarly teeth! UGH! |
