Read their "membership requirements" for each of their categories.
Note that
if you purchase and/or use the products, KJ or Venue membership, then your MUST agree to the following:
Quote:
Agree to a voluntary audit and/or field audit of your karaoke music libraries. A representative of the KIAA may check your karaoke music libraries for compliance.
There is
NO SUCH "verification" process for either manufacturers or distributors/resellers regarding sampling, licensing or distribution. Or any other situation as well. They are in fact, untouchable. There is no language that would require a "KIAA investigator" to investigate their actions.
You must also agree:
Quote:
Agree to the KIAA redress policy for using unauthorized karaoke music content.
However, a web site search for the word "redress" produces no results, so they're not going to be upfront enough to clearly post that information for their members or prospective members.
There is WAAAYY to much missing information and what IS there is so one-sided against the very persons that purchase the products to agree to anything with this organization... IN MY OPINION.
It might be a nice idea, but in it's current form (IMHO) it is useless to me.
Now, the easiest argument to this is; "If you're legal, then you have nothing to worry about."
Right. However, under this membership structure, you must allow them to visually inspect your library and agree to an unpublished redress policy, but NO ONE can visually inspect a manufacturers license(s) or a resellers inventory. That is all done on the "honor system"...
It's not an equitable membership structure and the disparity makes me wonder about the true agenda here.
Just an opinion, you decide for yourself.
