I just recently acquired three SM58's for $150. BRAND NEW. Can't get better than that.

I have always used EV767. Lonman mentioned that the Shure's were more durable, so I bought them.

I don't regret it. They sound great, much better then the EV's. Thanks Lon.

C'mon tip up on the find, was it ebay or someplace that anyone can get them?

I love the SM58, don't get me wrong. But in my opinion, for a vocalist the ND767a just shines. It isn't a very good karaoke mic since it is supercardiod. But it is the only mic I own I prefer over a 58.

Of course microphones are a very subjective science. I love the way my Senn. 935 sounds for tenor and female voices, but for males, not so much.

But the 58 is the best karaoke mic for two reasons (IMO):

1. You can't kill it with a stick. They are indestructible.
2. New balls are available at audiopiie.net for $5.00, and when you put one on it looks new.

We have a standard of no dented mics, so we replace the ball if it happens. I bought 8 balls for $40.00, and I change them out once a week and bring the old one back for cleaning. We carry 3 extra in our gig bags.

And I could find out where you got 3 for $150, I would make that deal too.

Yeah... 3 for $150, I'll buy a set too.

I don't know how the guy is able to do it, but here you go. They aren't
SM-58's but the price is right:

The best deal I've found latley is at my local Guitar Center. Last week I picked up a sm-58 for $89 and then there's a $10 rebate from Shure.

I like the EV mics better myself, but I like to have an wide assortment for my serious singers. I even have a singer who brings his own Sennheiser mic.

I think that's about the best price you're going to find on a new SM58.

Sennheiser?

You're talking about some high end equipment now !
Waaaaaayyyyy too much to spend on a karaoke mic to my way of thinking.

I wouldn't buy three PG-58s for anything -- they would never get used. Not the same thing as an SM58 at *all*.

Sennheiser and Shure are competitive. The Senn. 835 is an excellent karaoke mic and lists for the same price as the SM58. Only difference is that you can't get the windscreen/grille so cheap as you can for the Shure. If you could get their basket for $10.00 or less, I might well use the 835 for my shows. You *can* get 3 E835 mics for $230.

OK, these are PG-58s, and the deal is just "OK". You can actually get an even BETTER deal if you know your stuff. For instance:

Shure private labeled PG-58s for Radio Shack, who sold them as RS-233s, and you can find them for around $25 different places on line.

Though the PG-58 is not as good as the SM-58, it's still a good Karaoke mic.

I've been wireless for years, and would never go back to wired mics. Any similar mics in wireless?? The set I have now are on their last legs, but have performed well for several years. I've looked into some Sure wireless, but I'm not keen on spending close to $1000 for a microphone that will inevitably fly across the room at some point, especially since I'll need two.

I *don't* like wireless, but I have been using AKG WMS40 wireless (one dual for my service club, one single for my own use) for a year now with no trouble at all. Decent sound. Not SM58 level, but not too bad. A no-kidding 30 hours on a single alkaline AA. Surprisingly durable considering their build.

If you have any decent equipment at all, cheaping out on mics is senseless. The mic and the speaker are the most important parts of the rig for sound.

And if have so-so wireless mics and want me to come back, attach at least one wired SM58 so I can have a decent mic? I hate crap mics.

I've seen people get on a 5 dollar microphone, and make it sound like a million...some people just have that great a voice. Of course we've seen people with average voices still make millions of bucks
is this guy going to spill the beans or not?......where'd he get 3 new sm58s for $150?.......you can't get them used for that, when you add delivery.... :)

Most often with cheap mics, the problem with them is not so much the element, but the handling noise and/or off-axis response. It isn't just the voice, it is the experience. If you have an extremely good ear you can position the mic and compensate for poor off-axis response, which is one of the major problems with cheap mics.

Also, most of the time when I hear cheap mics sound great it is females or tenors, doing non-nuanced straight out belting. I have even learned about that, and when I have one of the sucky mics I do "Living and Living Well" instead of "Amarillo By Morning".

I bet they were SM58-LCs and he didn't know the difference.

Post subject:  Re: New SM58 mics killer deal

I'm am both wireless (standard) and wired for a couple of reasons.

A wired version of any mic usually has better sound that it's wireless counterpart, some customers prefer wired, they are easily changed and maintained, and I happen to have a bunch of them, so one or two are always hooked up, though MOST singers use the wireless.

I have another reason for having some wired mics as well. When I do a show, I carry a few power sources in case of an outage. I call it "Moonlight Karaoke". Anyway, the less I have pulling power, the longer the sources last. I'm not talking about generators, but rechargeable sources and inverters.

Sorry guys, been really busy. I got them from Ebay. It was a random auction. Got pretty lucky to find a deal like that. Sorry to disappoint.

mckyj57 - "I bet they were SM58-LCs and he didn't know the difference."

I've been doing this for eight years. I know the difference. They were SM-58s mics. I don't care for the switched mics, but they sound great. Before you question someone's intelligence, you should get the facts, mckyj57. If you want, I can scan the box and post it here. The guy that I bought them from got them as a gift and didn't need them, so I got a good deal.

The SM58-LC is just a code from Shure meaning an SM58 without a cable. SM58-CN means the cable is included & SM58-S is an SM58 with a switch.
Doesn't matter, you got 3 SM58's for a great price!

We tried to get the facts -- we posted a whole bunch here and you never answered. Since you didn't, I started speculating.

You got very lucky, because SM58s go like clockwork for $70.00 apiece on EBay, including shipping. Doesn't matter the quantity, either, because I have tried to get them for less with no luck.
