When Karaoke first got going (back in the stone age), I never thought I'd (as a singer) do Karaoke because of the lack of songs in my genre, which is metal or heavy metal (and which I now refer to it as 'classic metal').
Now of course, the books are getting much bigger and broader in scope, though some nights at some bars still have what I think is a very limited range of Karaoke songs.
The worst is when you find some songs in the "big books" and then the KJ plays the song (most KJ's that I've seen are using a software-based search function and playing them directly from a hard drive), and then the song either still has the vocal tracks on it, or there's no vocals AND NO WORDS on the screen!
Anyway, being a classic metal fan, I'm looking for Artists usually rather than songs and have to just go with the limited song selection by an artist that I like. I mean let's take Iron Maiden for example. If you're lucky the KJ will have The Trooper. But Iron Maiden has had what, like 15 albums? It would be nice if the KJ had a few more than just The Trooper. Personally, I'd like to see them have Hallowed Be Thy Name!
How about a few Dio tunes like Sacred Heart or Rock and Roll Children?
Like I said, it's gotten better...there's a lot more Rush than a few years ago.
