What does everyone think of the sets of cdgs on ebay? I've bought 3 so far and I think they are pretty good. |

Could you be a little more specific? What sets are you talking about? There are a lot of different sets being offered by multiple sellers. Are you inquiring about a specific brand name and/or price for it? |

As I have said in the past; a lot of people try to recoup some of their original investment in the karaoke business when they decide to go digital. Once they have all of their songs on a hard drive, they seize the opportunity to sell off their discs to people who haven't gone digital yet or will never go digital. I've got hundreds of CDG discs sitting up on a shelf in my closet that will probably never see the light of day again because I have ripped them all to my PC and I have my PC hooked up to my sound system in my house. I can cue up a song in practically no time at all withought having to worry about putting discs back where they belong. I would think that if I were to put my CDG's on E-bay; I wouldn't get nearly the amount that I paid for them so I would assume that if you're going to buy CDG's from a seller on E-bay; you're probably going to get a great deal. People are buying loaded hard drives these days with a song cost of pennies per song so I don't think the resale value of CDG discs would be very high. The only people that might pay a little more would be KJ's that are dedicated to running a 100% legal show; legal being what Sound Choice says is legal. |

I've seen a lot of the remanufactured sets, such as the Dangerous, All Hits, etc... But Bob is right. I've seen many people sell off their discs due to ripping to the computer. I have warned them that the technical illegiality of having them on computer is only made frownable by still owning the discs, but if they SELL their discs, they have no proof of ownership. If you sell your car, do you still own it? NO! Unsure why people think the digital medium is an exception to that! |

I don't think that ripman8 is asking what you think about the motive/s for someone selling CDGs on e-bay. I think he's asking about the quality of the discs themselves. He already stated that he's bought 3 sets so far and he thinks they're pretty good. That being said, I wish ripman8 would come back here and answer my question. |

As for "sets" of cds that are commonly sold like (sweet georgia brown for example). They can be pretty cheap compared to buying from major (current) manufacturers of karaoke. The quality can be variable but they are a reasonable way to get started if you are tight on funds. One concern is that apparently for many of these sets they are probably not paying royalties for the number of sets produced... Otherwise there would be no way they could sell for so cheap.... Another concern is that after you buy one or two of the "sets" your karaoke song lists starts to fill up with a lot of duplicates, and when you start buying CDs from the top companies you again start having even more redundancy, and those bargan sets tend to get played less and less as you will have a copy of the same song from an often better company. |

At which point you could remove the redundant discs from your library, re-sell them, and recoup some of your money. Perhaps you could spend it on more updates. |
