Input. I purchased a new HP Notebook computer 3 months ago. I also purchased Compuhost Software. I did a test by hooking up the computer to my aplifier/mixer and plug in the speakers to te amplifier/mixer. The sound quality is not good. Any idea what I could be doing incorrectly. When I hook up my old karaoke player to the amplifier, everthing sounds great. Obviously it's the computer hookup that I'm not doing correctly or not using the correct cables......any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Pam

Well, why don't you tell us more about how exactly you hook up both? Which cables? Which inputs? etc.

Not only that, which mixer? Which amplifier?

One of the most common mistakes is using the "tape in" input on some mixers. You can't eq that.

What happens when you hook your old karaoke player to the mixer?

My guess is that you need to purchase a ground loop isolator from Radio Shack... http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2062214

I had the same issue when I first started. I don't know the whole technical jargon, but it is something to do with the computer's power cable. If you unplug your laptop it probably doesn't have the same problem with HUM and all that mess. Good luck!

Doubtful you need a ground loop isolator unless it's a really low constant hum you hear in the audio.
Chances are you need a better sound card than the one buil into the laptop. Get an external USB sound interface.

This is pretty generic but will work & sound better than the built in.
I personally use
http://www.zzounds.com/item--LEXALPHA
Much better interface & is also very good for recording, comes with some good recording software & effects plugins. But also costs a little more.

I reread your post a couple of more times because I'm thinking a little slow today, might of had something to do with last night. When you say the sound is bad I guess I would need clarification. Is the sound weak, distorted or does it sound like electrical interference ? What is the means for your connection now? Are you just using the phone jack, external sound card or do you have an interface?

I use the following external sound card, and it delivers really good audio through a USB interface for around $50.

Yes you need to elaborate on "sound quality is no goodd", but a couple of simple points; your "volume on the computer should be all the way up", and you should double check your computer "audio settings".....also check your gain on your mixer......simple things, I know, and I don't mean to offend.....

I was recommended to use a Turtle Beach usb sound module.
