Post subject:  Newbie - Need help with purchase

I want to purchase a karaoke system for my husband for Christmas. He loves to sing and I know he will want more than the cheap all-in-one units I'm finding at the local retailers. He will want to add speakers, amps, etc (which he already has) and he will have no problem in using the TV as a monitor. We gather in a chalet in the mountains 4x's a year with friends and this will be a perfect addition to our trips so transportation is key as well.

I found this on the internet, http://www.thesongstation.com , and was wondering if anyone could give me a review of the pros/cons/alternatives? Also, I'm assuming we can make our own CD+G's using software that can be downloaded on the internet - right? Can ipods be used to download karaoke music with lyrics?

Any advise/feedback you have would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Never saw that one before. I wasn't impressed by the music samples, sounded pretty synthesized, but couldn't really get a good idea from the badly recorded clip on Youtube they put up.
53,000 songs is also pretty iffy, CAVS was the only company that I knew of that offered that many songs, and they are now in lawsuits because of it. Don't understand how this company can do so legally. Also, if you look at the description, it's 53,000 combined, there are only about 7,000 actual English tracks, the other 46,000 are foreign language tracks.
But for the price of under $500, it may be something to give a shot.
Now you say he already has amps & speakers? Are these of the PA type or home stereo type? If they are home stereo type, make sure they are speakers that he really don't care about as you typically do not want to put live vocals through a stereo system, could blow the speakers & worst case, the amp.
