Post subject:  List of Current Legal Karaoke Manufacturers

I'm still kinda new at the KJ thing. I've heard that over the years, several manu's have not done business entirely "by the book"

Hoping not to create a big debate here, but just get the names of the currently known legal and legitimate manufacturers.

I want to support them, moving forward.

Thanks

I would say anything that actually has contact info (address, phone number, website - SOMETHING) on their discs or disc case would be more prone to be legal than one that didn't have any contact info at all like Backstage, All Hits, Sweet Georgia Brown, etc...

But who's to really know who is completely legal now days?

I don't think there are any, but that's just my opinion. An address printed on a disc is not a guarantee and there's no place better than in plain sight to hide something.

Example: ENRON had an address too.

Right but i'd assume a little more that a company that can be actually found would be a little more on the up & up than one that can't. But again, who know these days.

Even SOund Choice has been caught producing discs that they failed to pay the license for.

Sonny/BMG, EMI produced karaoke tracks of their own artist mainly for Asian market. :D

Yep, 8125 was a prime example, but they were on the assumption that they'd get the licensing, when they didn't they pulled it. It was only out for less than a year.

That is a stupid statement. ENRON was a legal company, corrupt yes, but still legal.

For the US

I can only disagree with this statement in all due respect. There is nothing in the kiaa.org membership structure that guarantees that manufacturers are in fact legal and there are no procedures for auditing that they are and lastly, no penalties in place if they are....

Looking at the statement on the KIAA website, per the second paragraph of their mission statement: http://www.thekiaa.org/about-kiaa/missionstatement.html

Quote:
In pursuit of our mission, our primary goal is to foster a favorable business climate that equally supports and promotes the interests of all its members. Through its members, the KIAA endeavors to set a high standard of operation by asserting that its membership adhere to both legal and highly ethical business practices.

Participating members, per their website:
http://www.thekiaa.org/about-kiaa/parti ... abels.html

It looks like from the issues the website has identified and wants to focus on, they will have their work cut out for them: http://www.thekiaa.org/kiaa-updates.html

-Piracy of karaoke music
-The inability of karaoke labels to legally gain access to new and many classic song titles
-Unfair competition among KJ hosts

Their first meeting was last August in Baltimore.

If they're anything like the RIAA, I want nothing to do with them.
As far as I'm goncerned, they go too far with some of their tactics.
