Hello all, newbie here and am looking to find out which amp/mixer combo I should go with. Currently I have 2 Yamaha S115V and I want to be able to run them both at their absolute full potential without blowing them. Naturally I want a machine that has effects. I honestly do not understand how the Ohms and Impiedance work in all of this.
Right now I only have a Behringer PMP518M amp/mixer which is okay for my 2 Behringer B212's, and makes one of my Yamahas alone sound decent, but obviously I cannot get the full potential out of my Yamahas with that.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I honestly do not understand how the Ohms and Impiedance work in all of this. You just need to find the program power for the speaker and match it to the output power of the amp, simple. One more thing -- if you daisy chain two speakers, the 8ohm speakers become 4 ohms. And you run mono, which is not a bad thing for most karaoke setups. So you just need an amp which either puts out 1000W at 4 ohms or two channels of 500W at 8 ohms. The first is cheaper and easier to find -- for example the Carvin amp Lonman mentioned yesterday: https://www.carvinguitars.com/products/ ... ct=DCM1000Then you just run the bridged channel to the IN of one speaker, out of the OUT, and then into the IN of the second speaker. Bingo, running at your full potential. Coincidentally, the 8ohm single channel power of the Carvin -- 225w -- very closely matches your B212 speakers. So you can run those at about their full potential with it. There you take the amp out of bridged mode and run two wires from the amp. Quote: Right now I only have a Behringer PMP518M amp/mixer which is okay for my 2 Behringer B212's, and makes one of my Yamahas alone sound decent, but obviously I cannot get the full potential out of my Yamahas with that.
They are way underpowered. That unit, which I own and use with speakers needing only 75w of power, puts out 100w at 8 ohms. Or 180w at 4 ohms. You may not know this, but that is a mono unit. The two speaker plugs in the back are just daisy chaining the speakers, so your B212s are getting 180w at 4 ohms or 90w apiece. And your single S115 is getting 100w.

I appreciate the info, it does give a bit more clarification to me. I have been eyeballing the Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer with Effects for some time now and trying to understand the ohms on my own before joining this group. This is the simple specs on it:
Maximum Output Power @ 0.5 % THD at 1 kHz:
500 x 2 @ 4 ohms
350 x 2 @ 8 ohms (UA)
320 x 2 @ 8 ohms (H)
Your thoughts? I am not sure if 500 x 2 @ 4 ohms is the same as 1000w at 4 ohms that you mentioned. I think i would need to daisy chain this to get the my max, right??

No, you can't get to the program power of the speakers. The best you can do is 350 of 500 watts in stereo or 250 watts in mono at 4 ohms.
The good news is that will still do a pretty decent job of running the speakers. It will absolutely kick hind end on what you are getting out of the PMP518. There will be no comparision -- it will blow you away.
It may not be totally optimal, but you aren't going to find many powered mixers putting out too much more power. Peavey has the XR8600 2x600 unit at 4 ohms, which would allow you to run the speakers in mono and a monitor speaker from the other output. And they claim 475w/channel at 8 ohms with both channels driven, so that would fully power your Yamahas. It has good effects. No compression, sigh, but otherwise I have seen them and they sound decent. One of the better built-in equalizer setups, if I recall.

I think I am understanding more, thanks alot.
Now briefly lets assume that I get this Yamaha Powered Mixer I have been looking at. Considering it has two Speakon outputs for left and right and two 1/4 outputs for left and right, could I connect all 4 of my speakers, the Yamahas and the Behringers, which have both types of inputs, without any daisy chaining and get 475 watts out of each side? Which will give me 350 watts to each Yamaha and 125 watts to each Berhinger?
If so I think this would be a great (or potentially impressive looking) setup. If not, at least I can get 350 watts out of each of my Yamahas without worry of clipping at all.

You will never get the full potential out of that mixer amp for those speakers. They require 500 watts per channel into 8 ohms. That mixer only pushes 62 watts to 8 ohms, 105 to 4 ohms. So even piggy backing them, they would be GROSSLY underpowered since at 4 ohms they would need 1000 watts.
The EMX512SC you listed you be a DRAMATIC improvement, however is still underpowered for 'FULL' potential of those speakers.
If you connected all 4 speakers that you outlined (2 per channel), you would actually drop the load to 4 ohms - you are still not going to get the needed power to each speaker, they don't just take what they need, they are combined as a whole. So while it may be too little for the S115, it may be too much for the Br12's, which btw that first amp is even way underpowered for those as well.
Now for about the price of that mixer amp (maybe a shade more) you can get a decent system that will push the speakers to their potential.
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=630142
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=481805
Now this would be a system capable of powering the S115V to their full potential, BLOWING away the current sound system.

You all are great and supportive. I really appreciate it!
The QSC GX5 looks good. My thought is though that I will just run it out of my Behringer PMP518M and use it only as a mixer since I am familiar with its functions and effects. This will save me a little bit of money and keeps everything a little more compact for rack mounting.
I couldn't figure the numbers (ohms and wattage) though if I were to run both sets of my speakers with this amp. Can you tell me what I am looking at with this scenario. Or would I just be better off only running my two S115V for max sound? I don't have a need to do this (run all four), and more than likely wont, but just looking at all options with the little I will have.
Thanks again!

You would be perforce running in mono, and you would be missing many functions that are nice to have. It would work, I guess, but it would be a drag on the rest of your system that would otherwise sound darn good. I would go with the MG82CX or MG124CX. And perhaps a small equalizer like the dbx 215. Just so you know the GX5 will run on only one channel, giving 425 to each speaker. and that you will have trouble with it and the PMP518M because that is a mono mixer.

First off you really do not want to used mismatched speakers. This is not going be of any great benefit & could cause phase cancellation actually making the sound worse than it should be. But if you must, I would run both of the B212 off of 1 channel & the Yamaha both on the other channel.

No it is not a brdgeable amp, but will work in stereo or dual mono for all the speakers he's intending, a little powerful for the Behringers so care would need to be excerised in using that combo. It is stable down to 4 ohms per channel. The GX5 is a dual channel amp, pushing 500 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 700 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Only drawback on it is it can't be bridged, but not crucial for this setup. For a single mono setup all he'd need to do is use one XLR input & jump the 1/4" balanced jacks together for a dual mono setup. But it's not an issue really since that mixer amp is not set up to run an external amp.

Actually it does have one an AMP INSERT and could be used for an external with an external amp as long as a TRS connector is used. I figured I could split it with a TRS Y cable to the two ins on the amp. Even though it would still be dual mono. Just for the time being. If i were to do it, and only if it sounded better than just the two Yamahas together, This four speaker set up would only be for home or home parties of friends, otherwise I couldnt fathom mismatched speakers at a real paid gig.

Actually it does have one a pre amp output and figured I could split it with a TRS Y cable. Even though it would still be mono. Just for the time being. I missed that last night. Yes you can use that insert as an output using the "RING" plug on the TRS insert cable. This would plug into one channel of the GX5 with an XLR cable & jump the 2 balanced 1/4" jacks together so both channels will get the same signal. You would NOT use the other "TIP" plug of the cable as this would not send any signal to the amp. An insert cable - which is a TRS (tip/ring/sleeve) 1/4" plug on one end, & 2 mono TS (tip/sleeve). One of the mono plugs is actually a send, the other is a return when plugged into an insert jack such as your amp insert jack. The only one that will send signal is the "RING" plug. Quote: Quote: First off you really do not want to used mismatched speakers. Well this is entirely up to you, doubt you would need to add the B212 at all, once the Yamahas are powered properly with the amp, that will be all you'd need.

Lon, I own that one. The power-insert jack is actually dual purpose -- mono MAIN out or power amp insert. Bizarre, I know, but true. You do have to use a TRS, but it works.

The subs need an amp of their own. Keep your mixer/amp separate for the 12s and power the 15s separately.
