Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I need help.

I have a CROWN XTI-1000 amp
BMB CS-612 speakers( 600 watt)
BMB DX-5000 Mixer, refurbished

Here's my setup: speakers to amp (cheap speaker cables), mixer to amp, but for some reason the output is not that loud at all. At first, I thought the problem was my refurbished mixer, so I brought it to a PA shop to test it out for me. Buddy was really nice to test it out for me using his Crown amp(dont know the model) with xrl cables, it sounded really nice. So I bought 2 xlr cables thinking it was cables that's not giving me the output I want. Brought it home and tested it with my new cable, and same thing, I cranked the volume to almost max and it sounded like before. I don't want to bring to mixer back to the shop because it's pretty far from my house. Hope you guys can help me out. Thanks

How loud is the amp turned up?
Did you do the test of your mixer with your speakers in the store?

It could be anything, from cables, speakers to amp, now that the mixer is cleared.

I'd suggest to take your entire system to your buddy shop, since he is nice, and have him go thru all components. You'd know right after which one is not working. Worth the trip though.

I turned the amp up half way and almost to the max with the mixer's music volume to the max as well, it's still not that loud, i'd expect it to blow my whole house but it didn't. I did the test with my mixer and microphone, the speakers was not mine. The music sounded great, and the microphone was awesome. Now it's either my speaker cables or my set up because both my speakers and amp is new.

I don't want to go back to the store because I told him I'd buy the amp from him if he test the mixer for me, but he wouldn't give me a deal on the amp, so I went on ebay and bought a new Crown amp for a better price.
I bought monster speaker cables with banana plugs today, will test it out and see if there's any improvement.

Cables are just copper, I don't think that's where the issue would be.
What is the impedance on the speakers and is it compatible with the amp spec?
How about if you tried the amp on a different set of speakers or drove the speakers with another amp if you have these handy?

First of all I'd like to thank both of you for trying to help me on my problem. To answer your question, the impedance on the speaker is 2~8 Ohm. I've tested the speakers with a China brand amp, same result as my Crown amp.

SO since you tried a different amp you can pretty much rule that out. So it has to lie in your speakers or cables. I don't think you need to go with Monster, but I would try to wsitch those first & if you get the same result, the speakers are the culprit.
What kind of speakers did they test with in the store? Equivalent size and type or bigger regular PA speakers?
