Does anyone here KJ on Christmas Eve?

It lands on a Wednesday this year my regular scheduled day for my gig. I'm thinking of just telling the owner I won't be there. :D

I just don't think giving up my family tradition of being with my family is worth doing a gig that no one will be at. The owner will be cool about it, I think.

This is the first year our club is officially open Xmas Eve. They never have been open past 6PM except the last couple years when the owner & a few of her friends decided to stay - leaving the doors unlocked & surprisingly they ended up staying open until normal closing time with a more than normal ringout.
I am trying to find out if I am going to be needed because right now - I nor any of my hosts are available. May just crash train someone for that night if need be.

Moot point in Michigan...

It's illegal for clubs to serve alcohol after 9:00pm on Christmas Eve.

I'm actually DJing on Christmas eve. It's a 90's "School Disco" type party. Quite looking forward to it.

Christmas Eve karaoke would be strange at best. I'm thinking you would have very few customers. Family comes first and that is what is important.

I'm sure the owner will understand this and give you the night off.

One year me, my wife & parents all went out seeking karaoke on Xmas Eve (pre kids - 12 years ago). We actually found one, the place was PACKED, even saw a couple other hosts from around town I knew that were there as well!
There are several people that don't really have any family to be with or anything to do that just want to go play. The exact answer I got when I asked the owner why's she staying open this year. She said because there are people like me that don't have any family to go to or anything else to do. Like I said she informally stayed open last year & the ring out was more than normal nights.

I don't do Christmas Eve usually but one of the bigggest nights of the year was one Monday Christmas night - our family could NOT believe it when we excused ourselves early to go do a karaoke gig. It was actually pretty enjoyable. Seemed like people couldn't WAIT to get away from their family and cut loose....The Mon night crowd is mostly 20's.

Xmas night is almost always busy.

Christmas night is a completely different critter than Christmas Eve. Take it from someone with experience Babs, it's a complete waste of time. I did it one time and that'll be the only time.

Spend the night with your family :)

Babs, I'd say follow your own convictions.

Sounds like it may work for some people, but goes against the grain for you.

I could never commit to anything like that on Christmas Eve either, that's definately family time for me as well. It would be way too odd to go out that night. If I were single with no family around- or was just I and a mate with no kids/family around... maybe. But like you, that's not the case for me.

Now Christmas Day Evening is a different story. I have always wanted to go out and karaoke after we get through with an early Christmas day dinner and I have never found anyplace to go. I would think there is quite a few people who would like a place to go too.

Last year I KJ'd both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Both nights the place was full and the mic was always in rotation.

I'm doing Christmas night this year for the first time because it falls on my usual Thursday. It's probably going to be busy because folks have asked me to do it as an extra night in previous years. I turned it down to be with the family. But since it's on my regular night this time, me and the kids switch to Xmas eve and of course Xmas day this year.

If you are considering doing it Babs ask your singers if they would show. But you should be able to decline if family is the decider. My bar has let me off before and they never shut down. For anything. Even when the power went off a couple of years ago they kept going with cash and letting the regulars run tabs. I was done for that night though obviously.

I asked the owner if he'd mind and he said no. He didn't think there would be a crowd any way. He was more concerned I'd be there for New Years Eve. :D
Yeah ! A day off with my family !

Christmas Eve and Christmas day (night) for me are totally off-limits when it comes to work.
It's family only, no work.
Around here, people take it for granted that everything is closed on those two nights and won't even bother venturing out to see if anything's open.

I don't mind Xmas night as much since everything for us happens in the morning up to dinner, then that's pretty much it. Xmas night is a great night for me as tips are usually pretty plentiful. Last year made over $100, year before was almost $150.
