Karaoke Scene's Karaoke Forums :: New to Home Karaoke setup -HELP

Wanting to put together a home karaoke setup for my daughter using the computer. Ordered the Lexicon Recording studio (not come in yet). It was highly suggested on this forum. Not sure how all is suppost to come together, but I know I will need a mic (plan on getting the Shure PG58. Headphones?? I nned to know what to go with here, understanding that the CDG file will be output to the headset, doing output through the mic and connected speakers, but not quite sure how it all comes together. Also, I need a good Karaoke software with a record button within the program so she can record herself to these songs. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mckyj57.....So I am assuming this Behringer XM8500 is a good studio mic for the price?

And the headphones.... what is a good pair to purchase for when recording?

Lonman.... it was you who suggested this Lexicon that I bought when doing some reading on this sight before becoming a member. I need to learn alot here. And yes, it is the Alpha. Will the Karaoke recording software that comes with it be good enough to do the job at least somewhat professional in recording? I mean it doesn't have to be SUPER, but at least like you would hear when recording in one of these recording studios you find in some shopping malls. I may be inquiring from you Lonman on how to hook all this up. It's a Christmas gift for my daughter.

Duane If it is just for singing practice and recording, the headphones will be enough. I don't know the Lexicon unit, but I presume that it has the ability to mix the signal on the output with the input signal to record. The only software I have which has auto-record capability is Compuhost, which is probably not what you want. I am personally not a fan of the PG58, which I used to own but gave away. I would suggest a real SM58, or for less money the Behringer XM8500 ($20.00 new). If you buy a used SM58, you will be able to turn around and sell it for what you paid for it any time you want to. They are almost like cash.

Which Lexicon unit - the Alpha? It comes with a very good recording software, just takes a little time to learn. Or you can download Audacity for free. Best way to record is to lay the music down first, then come back & do your vocals, this way if you mess up say one little line of the song, you can just go back & fix that line without having to re-record the entire song over & over.

You could go with a condenser mic for recording, of course. But we are a karaoke group, not a sound recording group, so you might be better off asking elsewhere. I have the AKG HP40, which is about as cheap as they get -- I think they cost $40.00 or so at Guitar Center.

Ok... got the Alpha Lexicon in, headphones, and mic. After loading the Cubase software, I don't know why I am finding it so hard to figure out how to operate this program. Just wanting to do something simple... I've imported a audio track into a new project, but when I try to create the second track of "voice" (singing to the music), I hear the sound coming out of my PC sound card speakers instead of my headphones. However, when I just push play instead of record, I hear the sound track coming through my headphones. I just want to record my voice to a song listening to the sound track though my headphones, input voice through the mic. Sorry, don't know why this is so hard. The OPS manuel showed input from a guitar to record, but no insrtuctions on voice input via an imported audio file. Tried to record using another Karaoke software and I can hear it through my headphones, but its just scratchy hissing sound. Any help would be realy, really great. Thanks
