Post subject: | Downloaded Siglos Demo Problem Playing Disc.....Help. |
I'm sure one of you guys could answer this question relatively easy. I've never tried downloading a free trial program until today. I tried powerkaraoke's Siglos Karaoke Pro. Just wanted to try it. So here's the deal, the songs play normally for about ten seconds, slow motion to about half pace or so for a second or 2 then play normal for 10 and slow for 1, etc. Am I doing something wrong or is this standard in a trial version? I made sure to disable my wireless connection, and I have a relatively new Dell Inspiron PC (about a year and a half old). Yes, plenty of memory and processing, etc. and all other programs were closed and not running. I was playing from a CDG Disc, not sure if that matters, but I dont currently have any MP3+G files or any karaoke files saved to computer. So...............help, I guess? Any ideas? |

It may be that the disc is scratched or the drive is not doing good job on CD+G extraction. Try to play this file: http://www.powerkaraoke.com/download/NobodyKnowsYou.zip and see if it plays OK. Also try different CD+G disc. |

I am pretty sure its not the disc. It is almost brand new, no visible damage at all, it plays at the bar fine and the audio portion works flawlessly in Windows Media Player. It also plays fine in every other CD player I have in the house. Tried another disc anyway, same result. Perhaps it has something to do with the +G portion is what I assume. But I would think that would be basic to the software component. The operating system is XP. PK, what's the file that you've placed the link before I download? |

It is a sample CD+G song you may use to test the software with. |

I had the same problem on my Dell Laptop. Upgrading my Video Card solved my problem instantly. sw00000p |

PK, I actually already had a buddie send me a couple of MP3+G song files so I'll try that later. Is this ever a common error? SW, Do you know what the standard sound card was in your Dell, and also what did you upgrade to, where'd you get it, how much? |

Ok, so here's where I'm at. 1)CDG Discs wont work properly. 10 sec fine, 1 sec slow mo, etc. 2)MP3+G songfile works flawlessly , both video and audio. Safety Dance, good song! 3)Regular MP3s play fine in SK Pro as filler audio. 4)My CDGs play fine in Windows Media Player (audio only of course) So I dont know where the problems is. I'm running a Dell Inspiron Laptop PC, Windows XP, Intel Core2 Duo Processor. I think I upgraded everything when I bought the computer two years ago so A/V would be good, it oughta since it was 1800 bucks I think. So.......what now? |

Try ripping CD+G discs to MP3+G files with Power CD+G Burner and see how it works. |

Well I already know that works. I dont need those specific discs ripped to mp3+g as much as I want it to be able to play a normal CDG disc on the fly, should someone bring one in. If I find a program that works to my liking, then I'll rip all my discs to mp3+g, but the program has to work for me first, or I have to figure out how to work it, one or the other. |

The best way to accommodate guests with their own disc is still a separate player and Video switcher (or with Compuhost a Video Capture Card). |

I happen to agree with Sevarin on this one. Plying discs off of your cd-rom is risky at best as extended use can wear out the motor in the drive. Better to have an outside player for outside discs. Consider this: wouldn't you like to have at least the backup of having the outside player if your computer, heaven forbid, decides not to work for you? |

Guys, I know, I completely understand and absolutely agree. All valid points which I've thought of. But....................., but................the program is supposed to play CDG discs. Thus is the reason I still use discs, so I dont have to have a backup for an occasion when a computer crashes or a program does not work. Thats why I'm experimenting with the demo first. I just want the program to do what it's SUPPOSED TO DO for me before I buy anything. I'm just trying to figure out whether its a software error or a hardware problem. |

MTU Hoster will temporarily rip a song to the system, then dump it when it's done. One of the reasons I went with that program. A TON of people in our area (NW corner of Wash State) carry their own CDGs with them. |

I think SIGLOS has it's own website for technical questions. Someone there might be more aware of your particular problem. |

Well I take it back, I thought this'd be really easy to answer. I guess this is a program that I'd choose not to purchase. I'll probably try, MTU, Compuhost or Sax n Dottys. |

I'm just trying to figure out whether its a software error or a hardware problem. First off in a different post by you than the one quoted above you stated that you know it rips from cdg to mp3&g fine...I assume you have actually tried it then. I would still tend to lean towards a "hardware problem" even if it does rip fine only because the odds are more stacked against a hardware problem than a software problem....having said that I would try a reinstall of Siglos just to make sure it did install properly and make sure there are no nasty little programs (anti virus and the like) running in the notification area of your taskbar. I would also recommend as a test also to D/L, install and try and play a cdg with a different karaoke program...this might help make it more clear where the problem is. You could try this one http://www.karafun.com/karaokeplayer/ I am not suggesting for you to change your software choice...only to try a different one as a test. Although I use and often defend Sax N Dotty, you should avoid Sax N Dotty for cdg playback as the cdg disc plugin for Winamp is dated software and unless you are running a cdg certified drive such as a Plextor you will have issues..although sometimes in the configuration window of the plugin you can trick it into thinking your cd or dvd drive is cdg certified, I wouldn't go there. |

Excellent point RLC. I'll try another program to see if it'll do a physical CDG playback. That'll let me know for sure if its the drive or some other hardware prob. |
