Has anyone ever walked into a karaoke club and saw a kj with system that most kj's would kill for, but the sound was terrible? Now I know it's not just me because other patrons are complaining about it. And then a drunk walks up to him with the mic and says, "You suck!"

It's things like this that ruin my weekend. Can someone please tell me how they would deal with a situation like this. Do you offer to help the guy or would it offend them? Please share with me your similar technical experiences. If you have a Real-Live-Conscience then you must join the crusade to help save the world from bad sound speaker by speaker, amp by amp. Please have some Quality Sound Courtesy and reply.

I never heard of QSC

When i meet a KJ with bad sound ( which in my area is most of the time sad to say)i try to direct them to this wonderful free forum so they can learn things just as i have!

QSC makes great amplifiers, terrific powered speakers with great warranties, now if they only manufacture a Powered Mixer with their Powerlight Amp Technology that puts out at least 500 watts per channel into 8 ohms, has all the features of a Yamaha-5014c and sells for under a thousand dollars they would have a very marketable, unique product to sell I think. I wonder if they pay attention to forums like these?

I'd tell him to stop prattling on about his Quality Sound eCuipment and go learn something about sound engineering!

I'd never tell a KJ at a show how to improve their sound UNLESS they asked.

As a KJ I hate it when singers tell me
NEED MORE VOLUME
NEED MORE TREBLE
NEED MORE BASS
NEED MORE REVERB
or when a soft talker is singing the "HELPFUL GUY" feels the need to come up and tell me to turn it up like I'm keeping the volume low on purpose !!

Pretty simple here. Strike up a convo, make a new friend, tell him your a KJ too. Eventually you ask what they do, and tell them what you do. It's non threating, the point is taken and they either try stuff or do what they want.

#1 - I'm a pro KJ I'll always know what my system sounds like. If I don't than I shouldn't be in this business. I just don't need some singer wannabe or some other KJ stuck on themselves telling me anything. If you don't like my sound or my mics or my speakers and books and me ...don't come back ..keep going from show to show until you find the perfect karaoke show ..which ultimately will be singing in front of your bathroom mirror ..... I don't care who you are NOW THAT'S FUNNY !

Oh were it true for all, or even the majority.

And there are a lot I don't go back to, that is for sure. I have become spoiled, and if I am out for karaoke I just don't want to waste my time at places with crappy systems. If I am out because I want to spend time with wife and friends, then it doesn't matter as much. Of course most of them like good systems, too.

Tonight is my favorite gig -- my once a month deal at my service club. Not crowded, but no pressure for more people as it isn't a paying gig. It always brings in more people than a normal Tuesday, but even if it doesn't no big deal.

There's a long running show ( the only show for years!) in a neighboring town.
The KJ is a wonderful person, and is great at what she does. The problem is that her ears aren't so good. Her mids and highs are piercing to the point that I look around the room and see people wincing.
I cannot sit idly by and say nothing, particularly when my own ears are affected.
Because I know her and she knows I know sound to a degree, she will actually listen to me. The problem is that she doesn't know what all the "knob thingies" on the board do and hasn't taken the time to experiment and learn. She wants to "set it and forget it".
Problem is, as you all know, you just can't do that.

Then some idiot that thinks he knows what he's doing eventually comes along and cranks up her mids and highs thinking it will improve things and she doesn't know what went wrong.
Then we're back to square one.

If it was that bad, I would find some way to gently tell them how to improve their sound without accusing them of being a bad sound tech.
I like the idea of befriending him or her and then easing into the subject.

I'd want to learn on my own so I learn good.

I don't remember seeing that brand during this particular situation.

As the saying goes about truth, "from the mouths of children and drunks."

I could hear mostly some kick drum and maybe some bass but the rest of the music was barely there, almost inaudible in some cases. The vocals were also hard to hear. I would describe it as what you'd see in a movie depicting a bad karaoke dream. People became anti-social and it was a very weird, and ackward vibe. Are there problems associated with audio and laptops? The gear was all first rate for a karaoke setup.
