No replies here but I did some googleing(?) for reviews and also some forum searches (here and elsewhere) and could not find any real positive comments, other than low price which all also equated to entry level....so I think I am back to my original choice of sub (Mackie SWA1501) which is actually a very good match for my mains (Mackie SRM450's).

I didn't have specific experience so didn't post, but I think you won't go too far wrong with the Mackie. I use the passive TH-18 driven with the J-2500 amp and consider them to be adequate at best.

I would have loved to respond but I have no experience with that particular sub. I will say that I would do some homework before you settle on the SWA1501. IMHO there are much better options out there for the money. Yorkville and QSC just being a couple of them. I left a few links I thought you might get some use out of. I hope you like reading.

SWA1501's are terrible subs I went though 8 of them in less than 2 years.

Your best option is a QSC or Yorkville if you wish to buy active.

Tapco is nothing but a Mackie with a different name on it, same plant same junk.

Thanks all for your responses and thanks LondonLive for the links. I guess I should get to doing my homework...got some reading to do. I will probably have more sub questions in the near future so be ready guys.
Just 1 thing I know for sure...weight is a consideration...it seems some of these are humongus weight wise...like to keep it under 80 lbs if possible.
Ok, I guess I have to get more real...how about under 100 lbs.

I have had a few good reviews of the new JBL Eon 518S.

Thanks lyquiddye that is one that looks to fit my wants for size and weight...will have to go give it a listen a GC...also was considering the PRX518S, listened to that today, running with a pair of JBL MRX525's....nice!
