Remember the "dungeon" I was telling you about?
Well, it seems the owner of the building didn't make his mortgage payments and the building was repossesed last week.
Because my venue was leased out to my venue owner by the building owner, my venue owner was locked out and I haven't had a show since.
Looks like it's over, as the venue owner is sueing and she is not willing to come back in under those circumstances (building in receivership).
So no more Karaoke from there.
On the upside, all her staff was hired by the better venue up the street (even closer to my home!) and they've talked me up to the owner.
I know the owner as well, as I run the local pool league. I've been instrumental in bringing up his sales on Tuesdays (league night) as I've had my players come out for extra play after league at his venue.
Seems that I scratch his back and now he's going to scratch mine.
We will be "discussing" the possibility of karaoke in his venue after the new year.
It's a better atmoshpere and I would much rather host there than at the previous place anyway. The load in and out will be a breeze, as there are no stairs in this place and the previous place had a set of about 30 or so (no elevator).
Plus, many of the people who wouldn't come to the dungeon WILL come to this place.
I can't wait!

Edit: Oh, and darn good thing I left nothing in there! If I had, I could kiss it goodbye without going through the court process to get it all back. Could have been a year or more.
Seems when it's in receivership, anything in the building is considered theirs until you go to court to prove otherwise.

Excellent point about protecting ones gear. Whether it's the landlord or the lessee (venue owner) that causes you to be locked out of the premises, any equipment left behind by a third party cannot be retrieved without going through a legal process. That includes juke boxes, video games and the like ---- even equipment under lease!

Eric:
It was a point I had touched on briefly in another thread some time ago.
I stated then, as now, for that very reason, I will not leave my gear behind, even if only over night.

I won't leave my stuff over night either. I wouldn't be able to prove what's mine anyway. I only do this part time (not as a business). I bought my stuff 8 1/2 years ago, and do not have my receipts to prove it. There's other gambles to leaving my equipment behind.... what if the place has a flood or burns down? Will the place replace my stuff?

BTW, not meaning to go on a tangent (above), but good luck with the new gig. Sounds like it should be very successful for you.
