Recommendations? Obviously, Soundchoice Foundations sets and Chartbuster essentials are out there and you can download mp3+g's as needed, but can anyone throw out another collection or even a single disc (w/ number) out there that you just think is phenomenal! An absolute must have, whether it be because you just love it or everything on it gets sung alot! I heard someone say once that someone just had a great Pearl Jam disc, and Chartbuster is great for most country, etc. but I just wanted to see if anyone had some specifics that I'm lacking. Soundchoice, Chartbuster, Legends, Sunfly, whoever, doesnt matter who just as long as you think its great. I personally would love a new Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Gary Allan, Garth Brooks, etc. for my personal use if there's a better one out there. So anybody, shoot! |

I'd recommend the Sunfly Gold Depeche Mode disc. It has a bunch of their classic songs that haven't been done by any of the other manufacturers. They're one of the seminal 80's bands, yet still have a (much smaller now) fiercely devoted fanbase. Also in the same vein, Zoom has 2 volumes of songs by the Smiths. Several of the songs get fairly frequent use at the one show I go to where he has both discs. And having them in your book gives a bit of hipness cred to the KJ, as a lot of people are delightfully surprised when they see the long list of songs that most KJs don't have. |

There is no such thing as a 'must have' disc. What is killer in one club or area may be a complete coaster in another. Find out what YOUR customers WANT to sing & you'll be alot better off than asking from here what are must haves. I know some companies that buy every brand new radio song available and while it may work for them, others there may be no need. I used to purchase all discs as they became available & found that 9 out of 10 times, they would get used maybe 1 or twice then never touched again - when I started taking actual requests from singers to buy is when discs started to matter & got used more regular. |

I sort of go along with Lonman in that there are no such disks because it depends on your area. But I have noticed a few disks that a *lot* of hosts have and that would be high on my list. Like SC8146 Southern Fried Rock (Lynrd Skynrd, Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, et al) and CB9074 (Johnny Cash collection -- 5 songs get solid play). For me in my area, the single-artist country disks are a "must have". The more I have of Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Ray Price, Jack Greene, Tim McGraw, Reba, Patsy Cline, and Faith Hill, the better. More so for the men than the women, who seem to stick much more to the popular and tried and true songs. So when I am going to expand my collection generally, I like to find a requested song on a single-artist disk. The one-hit wonders that don't make it to the Foundation are not as important to me. But Conway Twitty? If I have a chance to buy a compilation disk with a requested song I consider it a sound purchase in my area. |

http://www.chartbusterkaraoke.com/-The_ ... 15301.aspx Tom I have never seen that one! I have a lot of those songs, but not all. If you don't have much country, and want a selection, that is about the best collection I have seen. |

For the absolute basics, the Supercore set is pretty good. It's drawn from a variety of manufacturers and intelligently packaged. It's what I started out with, and even though I've got most of this material on major brands now I still use this set a lot. The Ameri-Sing stuff is the best in the set and they're often the best of each song I've got... sometimes even over Sound Choice versions I've picked up later. They missed a few that should be in any basic set for all age groups... Mustang Sally, Santeria, and Under The Bridge come immediately to mind, and there are some real dogs... California Girls and Wonderful Tonight for two... |

Dangerous as well, they fill in a lot of holes! I have to agree with Matt The Dangerous Discs are excellent and have songs you will not find elsewhere. They are hard to find but worth it. |

Good ideas so far all. Lonman, no biggie, not gonna go buy em all, just looking for an idea for a lightbulb to go off. You know sometimes you dont think of something til someone else says it. |

Out of all my discs, A332 is the center of our karaoke universe... which translates into CK028 A252 used to be popular but most of the versions have been replaced with stronger brands, which is SPC014 and I'd recomend any Neil Diamond disc. . . |

Karaoke Warehouse has the CB5074 Chartbuster George Jones 50 hits pack for $25 (and some others including Alabama, Reba McEntire and Tammy Wynette) if you're interested. Not sure how long that special will be good. |

Who makes Radio Starz? Seems like I had a couple of theirs at one point but gave them away since I had better versions. I think I still have one of their Dixie Chicks ones somewhere. I can't find a website for them, but Acekaraoke had about 30 discs listed, dont know if thats all they have. I could've sworn I thought the ones I had were junk but it seems like this might be the Pearl Jam that everyone on here loved. In retrospect, I think I had a regular bring that in one night and it was good. |

Nevermind, found the old thread topic. Still, anyone know who made them? No website? |

There are some Radio Starz tracks that made it into that Supercore starter set I mentioned earlier, and I agree they are top quality. Last night someone sang "Man I Feel Like A Woman" (remember that this is a very small basic set) and that Supercore Radio Starz version just creams the wimpier one I have on a Chartbuster all Shania disc. |

Radio Starz is nothing to write home about as far as lyric display, but their musical versions are great. I have a friend who is a musician for a name group, and he was wowed by the Steely Dan material put out by Radio Starz. |

kjpro.com/browse has all the ones listed that were made. Ebay is an excellent place to find these kind of sets! many online retailers use that as a way to recruit new buyers! ! |

No I didn't figure you would, as far as the collections mentioned, I agree - they will help to build your library. As far as individual discs, this is all I was getting at, there is no such thing as a 'must have'. What is a great disc in one club/area, may be nothing elsewhere - even in a place next door. I have seen people recommened specific discs that would never fly in my club. Ask what your customers want to sing & work from there. |
