Last night was a gig at an unusual venue. A big shed that has been dedicated as a museum to Cinema, TV and Radio memorabilia.

It certainly wasnt the best place for us as it had been divided into several different rooms and we were set up in front of the cinema screen and folks were attempting to dance on carpet with the cinema seats pushed back.

Anyway while the short movie was playing and after while everyone dined, the guy who runs this venue was playing all his audio thru a couple of STK speakers. The sound blew me away!!! 15inch passives...crystal clear with plenty of lower end as well...

has anyone else had any experience with them? I had heard of them but always thought they were crap...last night has me wondering

They are just cheap off brand junk sold in your end of the world.

Comparable to Alto Crate or Behringer.

With proper placement and processing even cheap speakers can be made to sound good.

I don't know why someone might spend $1000 on a drive rack and $150 each on speakers.

I have done system setups on installs. We use a spectrum analyzer and a high end condenser to properly eq systems. It's pretty amazing what a stereo 31 band eq can do when setup using test tones.

Do you use an analogue analyzer or software? Do you just do one central test or do several points in relation to the speakers?

I have never done it with karaoke systems but have with jukebox installs. It is more accurate than doing it by ear...

I have used this to test response and gain of mixers. It works good.

The buzz of the town was the Academy Award Museum opening. Naturally you can guess who outfitted the place. They started with the Voice Of the Theater. Then to top it off I heard a brief stock plug from their parent company on the local news radio. I too believe that if you know what you're working with and know what you're doing you can't lose. You'd be surprised at who covers nearly 100% of the world wide cinema market though.

It isn't the James B. Lansing company.
