convert your CDG to MP3+G (192K rate) should maintain a very close to CD quality and save you 7-8 times the space. |

This is an old topic. Rip it higher. You CAN tell the difference of 192 versus CD. Heck, I can tell with my cheap DELL speakers at home. It will definately make a difference on a real rig. |

convert your CDG to MP3+G (192K rate) should maintain a very close to CD quality and save you 7-8 times the space. Why ripping at 192 and not at 320K, or better still .wav. Hard disc space is cheap nowadays. I rip my karaoke dvd video to .vob; I could save space if I convert those .vob files to .avi, but I rather not. |

Agree with hard drives as cheap as they are rip the best you can. 192 was good a couple years ago, but hard drives were also much more expensive!!!! |

128k has been the usual default, and referred to as CD quality, plus you can tweek the sound with the simplest of EQs, and even more with the proper tools or toys....vast majority of customers don't notice anyway, only other Kjs, and prissy people looking to find fault with your stuff...... |

not true. For the past few years, 192 is the standard. 128 is the lazy man's way*. Sure it works... but anybody that plays first the 128 track and then the .wav version can EASILY tell the difference. And yes, I've had customers in a noisy bar find fault with a couple of my older 128 tracks that were noticably affected by the compression. * by lazy man's way, I mean... My software I use installed and defaulted to 128. You have to go in and change the settings! |

There is a noticeable difference between 128 & 192. Most of the mp3's i've been buying have been 192 or higher lately. |

No, no case has been rested. You CAN tell the difference between a 128 rip and a 192 rip. Eq'ing can help, but it isn't going to hide the compressed sounds of the high end where is most noticeable. There is even a slight difference between 192 & 320, but this I give you isn't as noticeable. Like I said the downloads I have been buying lately have all been 192 or better. Haven't received a 128 mp3 download in quite a while. |

Can't believe people are still encoding at 128k Hope you're using a Lame encoder at least, if not, the file is damage and can't be burn on a cd, it will always sound bad |
