Perodically a thread is posted about fill or no fill and there are many that use either one or the other and will argue very vehemently about using their format. What works for their personality, system and venue might not work across the street. The following is a basic outline of protocols for different requirements. I present this not out of ego, but from many years of hosting and as MC at functions such as full blown formal military parties. I have setup PA (public address) systems for about every situation there is. We have even run pool and dart tournaments with jukebox systems.

What does this have to with karaoke or DJ or a combination of both? If your system has the requirements and a host with knowledge, you can host and present a format from everything such as a 50th wedding anniversary to a lounge that requires high energy, no silence bam bam boom boom boom. The anniversry reqiuires no fill, ample time between karaoke or DJ for them to visit and typically at an average low listening level.I will leave it to your imagination for the boom boom. Personally even at my age I dont like silence but it is not what I want but what the crowd wants...

The software needed has to have auto and adjustable fade pref between 2 players. Many playlists are required and sometimes need to loaded the on the fly. Also the setup should have the ability to have different sound engines for karaoke and fill and be routed to different channels on the mixer. The fill or background music should be routed through a compressor and the announce mic hooked into the sidechain to duck (auto reduced volume, adjustable by threshold etc) for the applications that require it and absolutely necessary for wireless mic MC work. BTW this might be needed at any venue over the course of developing a gig karaoke or DJ.

I am currently looking for a host and during the interview if they make the comment oh I use fill only or....They will not be hired.. I need one who can read a crowd and present a viable format between the extremes above and change dynamically minute by minute as needed. It doesnt take a bubbly personality but does take a barker with enthusiasm in the delivery. Fill or no fill or time of fill between singers is almost mute unless the rotation is heavy. It is the attitude and presentation that gets everybody involved that makes a show. By being honest and applying your own personality almost anybody can develop these talents.

Hopefully some will glean from these ramblings which I tried to articulte. If nothing else I hope it shows a different aspect and what is needed for a good dynamic show.

She has talent and is in a class that would put my system into the upper 5%. Not by singing talent (in person she blows you away) but withhosting abilities.

Everybody here send her a message to go work for Ollie in Greeley!!! PLZ!!!! I do not ask for much''I dont know if folks without a myspace page cam IM her but try lets barrage her with requests.. ROFL

I went to her show in Broomfield and it was slow and I got to sing a lot. Blew her away and we clicked as karaoke folks. She is awesome!!!!

I only do this to supplement my Soc Sec but out of habit I go all the way!!

Ron I have talked to her a couple times on the phone. I essentiallly offered her a turn key operation. As an added bonus I have a nephew with a very successful florist shop in northern Colorado with multiple weddings this spring. Whilst you sit here and argue with your negative crap I am bringing in the new year with a positive attitude and hope for the future.

I wish everybody here a brand new and prosperous new year and may all your problems be less than 08.

WOW WHAT A STUNNER!! WHAT A KNOCK-OUT!!

She looks VERY MUCH like Shania Twain!! And if she's got the public speaking and KJ skills to go along!! What a find!!

VERY COOL myspace too!

Usually they are maybe pretty, but are lacking in the DJ skills or are shy about public speaking and have to work on those.

But to find someone ready to go out of the box thats VERY UNUSUAL!!

Just listened to her do "Don't Speak" on MySpace. What a talent--also very personable. Got me to thinking that without karaoke, we wouldn't get a chance to hear such people unless they were in the .000009 percent that got famous. I'm with Kayoker in hoping for a happy 2009.

But beware----with her talent and stage prescence there's always the danger that some band will come along and make her FAMOUS!!!
