I want to run a powered monitor speaker with my Peavey 696F. Any suggestions?

JBL EON 10?
Mackie SRM350?

Do you have a budget you are looking at?

I'd like to keep it under a hundred bucks if possible.

Ain't no such animal. You might find a single used B212A for that, if you watch Craigslist carefully. There was one on indianapolis.craigslist.org some time back, for $125.00, but it sold.

Not much out there for that price.
$200 for a cheap personal monitor.

Most professional Karoake shows use either the mackies or JBL's. You could perhaps find a physically smaller version than the 15's---12's or 10's. Dont know if there are such animals out there. But there certainly arent any for 100 or less as you want. Maybe on EBAY or Craigslist

Ebay and Craigslist are where I usually go to find decent stuff at prices I like. I'm a patient person, so I'll find it eventually. I just needed to know what to look for. Is there much of an advantage to running two monitor speakers over just one? Or should one suffice?

Two is mainly nice for coverage. Anything relatively loud should be OK with one.

Personally I use Kustom KPC10M cheapies, not powered. They get loud enough for karaoke in small-medium bars and little rooms. (You don't need live-sound levels because stage noise is next to nothing in karaoke.) I drive them either with one channel of my PMH3000 powered mixer (in one setup) or a bridged Samson Servo 120a.

In the rare occasions where I play louder, for live sound applications, I have a couple of B212A speakers I use for monitors. (I do a couple of parties a year with a heavy metal band, and have filled in once or twice with equipment for one-off outdoor gigs.) They do fine.

I have looked at those Fender 10" powered things for sale, but have been turned off by the reviews I see.

Like you, I thought the fender might be good and then read the reviews. Thanks for the input! :)

The JBL EON10 G2 is an excellent stage monitor and for its size has never ceased to amaze me as far as sound output. I have used it for a main in small venues and daisy chained with a G2 for fill or even back towards the stage for monitor. In other words multiple purpose. Another thing to realize is the resale value on certain brands.

I could also use a JBL Eon15 powerpack or 2 for the stage monitor(1/2 power of the G2).My singers have developed to the point where they would rather hear the mains to hear trhe full EFX and not just plain vocal on the stage. When the setup is right both are available.

I have been using American Audio 15" 2-way speakers for several years now. You can find them for as little as 249 each at places like Guitar Center. This is a well built speaker for the price and has quality components. It would probably make a good monitor.
