Just wondering if there is a free program or free software that is available for home use?

no, it's all okay... just that different people think of this site for different reasons.

The singing site that's connected to it (singers showcase), vs we pro KJs... and just singers in general.

you'll get a lot of differing opinions, but there's a couple of very free programs.
Do some google searches on these...

Karafun

karaoke builder player

winamp with plugins. (it was free when I got it - unsure about now) - not the winamp PRO. That's a paid program and I'm not happy with the end result!
----------------

Some other people have some free programs or very low cost.

ASSUMING you're talking about Windows programs... unsure about Mac or Unix operating systems!

downloading songs...

Some sites like selectatrack offer tracks by the download. I just did that recently with four tracks (I think it was three or four minimum).

Proburn also I think does it by the track, but I know they do it by making a custom disk.

Be VERY wary of other sites... there are many illegal sites that seem to be offering a valid service, but in effect are ripping off the karaoke manufacterers.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Hopefully some other members will chime in on where to get stuff!!

have a great one!

Matt

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

I visited all the above sites and more, lol, I downloaded the karafun player, it looks like to me to be the answer. They have three free songs on it, wow. But all the sites I visited want you to pay money per single track.

What I am after is a site, maybe through limewire or something simlar, where I can download these songs for free and play them on the karafun machine. Preferably a whole catalog of songs, maybe 1000-5000 or more songs.

I inserted a karaoke disc into my computer and it won't play on karafun but rather itunes opens up and plays it, obviously without visual. Do I need a different cd player?

You will need a different program in order to play discs from the computer.

At this point, merely uninformed. Karafun is a fun program, but in order to get karaoke tracks legally, common sense must tell you that you can't get something for nothing. Limewire's pirate tracks are reknowned for their horrible quality.

Even with Karafun, playing discs might wear out that consumer drive on your PC. You are better off getting a player

It cracks me up how people are always looking for free this, free that. It'd be even funnier to see the look on their faces when, at their job interview, the employer says "You can start Monday, and your salary will be $0".

I was suprised to find out how many people think that all karaoke is illegal and therefore assume it is possible to get for free, by bending a few minor laws that no one checks up on.

A local computer company originally said they wouldn't sponser me because "most people with any clue will know that karaoke is illegal, after all the shows are on computer, therefore any one with a clue would download 10,000+ "

These aren't people with any interest in karaoke, but they do know computers.... after I explained the law briefly (i didn't have to go into direct details: as i have and use original discs for all my shows), they sponsered me....

Yes the free material is out there, but if you love karaoke, and want to keep this medium at a decent cost, and output level, people need to realise nothing in this world is free. Free songs may not affect people in the short term, but in the long term well who knows.

Just make sure you educate not intimate people asking for free things.... I used to expect water to be free, now it's 90p a bottle....

It already has affected long term! With companies shutting down & lowering production levels dramatically. SC used to put out almost 10 new discs every couple months, now they are down to 1 or 2 every 3-4 months.
Several companies are gone due to piracy.
