Post subject:  Audio Setup, laptop, stand alone player, mixer, and powered speakers
hello everyone, been browsing your forums and had to join....Can some people give me some help on my audio setup...I have a Laptop running AutoKDJ and zipped karaoke songs, a stand alone JVC303 Player, a Xenxy 802 Mixer, and (2) Behringer 215A Powered speakers. My question is this, my mixer only has one set of RCA CD/Tape inputs, should I route my laptop to my input on my JVC and then from the output on the JVC to the CD/Tape on my mixer or should I run out ofmy laptop to channel 3/4 on my mixer, and my JVC to channel 5/6 on my mixer. This would obviously require me using cables that go from RCA to 1/4" TRS connectors to make this setup work, but it seems like the ideal setup would be the second option. Also if anyone else has 215A Speakers, the manual sucks and if anyone has recommendations on the settings on the back of them, I would be happy to listen. Thanks everyone....

I would prefer the channel inputs to the CD/tape inputs any day!

okay, will there be any signal loss or interference going from RCA to 1/4" TRS? and do you have a good baseline setting for the channel input EQ settings ? I have just hooked it up , but a good baseline to go off of and start there would help. Also my Channel 1 and Channel 2 are the main Mic inputs....what is the best way to interject echo into these channels? with a separate Microphone mixer with echo? or some sort of other option....Sorry about all the questions, I have always been running off a karaoke player to home stereo, and am in the process of upgrading to something better. Thanks

No. At least no more than any other unbalanced cable type.

Put everything at midrange to begin with on the EQ. Tweak from there, but you can't go too far wrong with midrange. That is true on the back of your B215A, too.

As far as "echo" or effects, it is these days usually done in the mixer. On low-end mixers, you don't usually have inserts so it is difficult to do. One option is a separate pre-amp in line, but I think that is a terrible option for just plain karaoke. Better would be to get a mixer like the Yamaha MG82CX.

There is no point in going from an RCA to 1/4" balanced (TRS). All you need is an RCA to 1/4" unbalanced (TS), since RCA is not a balanced jack, you would gain no added benefit using the TRS end - and in some rare cases the connection won't work properly or sound right.

Good baseline - I always find my baseline is all eq set to 0 (center) and work from there. All systems are different, some need more eq'ing, others don't.

That mixer does not have any effects built in. You would want to continue using the mixer to connect both mics & music, but you will need to add en external effects processor for any kind of vocal effects.

This is a small unit that will fit in nicely with that mixer.

Thanks for correcting my brain problem where I had temporary insanity in thinking that you needed an insert. 8-)

Yes, On the Nanoverb I use the first hall reverb or the delay. Out the FX send, back into the return (or a channel if you have one).

Still, it is $100. For $50.00 more, you can get the MG82CX with built in effects as well as compression.
