Post subject:  Sponsors?
I read about Sponsors now a couple of times here. I'm really interested in the subject.

So how do you guys get Sponsors? What are your arguments to get them on board? What businesses are you approaching? How much do you get away with? And what are you doing/offering in return?

I would like to know more specific details, that might help me (and others) to get the ball rolling.

Sponsors? You mean like businesses that have adverts in your own song books and equipment? Haven't seen that around here. My DJ service does a deal with a local radio show that discusses car shows. I put their name on my flyers and I get mention on the show.

Thanks for your answer! Yes, ideas/methods of sponsoring you are using. How to approach business, what to offer them, if money is involved, how much for what? Etc...

Just trying to get ideas together.

I just asked another business owner if he would sponser me, when he asked what he would have to do, I replied "give me a penny and trust that my company is worth putting your name too" and in return I'll advertise you.

I use the fact i am sponsered to show that I am a company that will last, it adds a bit of credability to what i am doing. There is a show in my area that has sponsership with the local cinema, WKD (as in the drink), Panasonic and some Boat thing how he got that I don't know.

As I've said before, we will get a sponser to pay for our slips, with both their and our information on them. They are printed by a printing company. We get our slips and they get a cheap form of advertising.

As for who, that's when you use networking, friends, etc. I would not suggest you use one of your venues, if you play at a multitude of venues. Sort of like bringing McDonalds food into a Burger King.

Don't like the word sponsor ? - You can ask ANY business to advertise in your books, slips, flyers, rolling monitor screen if you have one. JUST check with your venue if they mind ?

You might want to try contacting the beer supplier, or liquor supplier, at your venue. Ask if they would be interested in sponsoring you. They will in turn (possibly), it all depends on the guy you talk to, be willing to make a banner for you, with the name of your business, in exchange for you POSTING it at your venues. Of course it will say SPONSORED by: MILLER, BUDWEISER, OR WHOMEVER. Also at your shows, in your opening statement, you might say, "this is _____ Karaoke, sponsored by ________. Then ,check with your different venues, to make sure that they don't have a problem with that product. If they have no problem, EVERYONE'S a WINNER.

Now THAT'S good thinking.. BTW- If you ask your venue to talk to their beer disty, you can always get a free banner for that venue.

Very good question..Gemini Karaoke has several sponsors during the year if you vist my website and click on sponsorship it will give you an idea of how I have our set up...besides that our Community theatre and Steifel Theatre. They give me tickets to give away at my show and in turn hang a poster in their window. There are alot of ways to get sponsorships...its a great way to get the word out. Matter of fact a local Tatoo Place just sponsor my New yaers show....the limits are endless...just go out there and get them

I don't understand why a karaoke show would want or need sponsors. Generally people use sponsors to get things for free in return for advertising the business and it's a somewhat equitable trade. But free slips? A single banner? A penny????

Don't we have to deal with enough advertising as we go about our daily lives? Is it really necessary to pollute your customers eyes with even more of it just so you can save $50 a year buying paper at Staples?

well one good use for sponsors would be for getting the word out to new potential customers, advertise ur website vs the club .... on your website u advertise the club. that way if by chance u move on ur crowd can follow u and not the club. cheers!

Sure! If I can save money on something that would normally cost me money, absolutely!

I have a deal where I exchange advertisement with a local paper for a portion of my monthly ad.Im not allowed to give exact details but its worth doing. they have brought me a lot of exposure, and I do so for them.

I got the local Karaoke Retail Store to pay for all our karaoke slips by advertising on the back of the slips. They also pay for part of our karaoke books for the full color ads we put on the covers, other advertisers make up the rest for the books. I'm am now trying to talk to the LEGAL karaoke download sites to see what kind of sposorsip I can get.

I can see how this could work if done correctly. Of course only singers generally peruse the books so the audience is relatively limited unless you use AVS on your graphics, or are willing to do shout outs on the mic. Anyone ever thought of adding other stuff to books. I've thought about including some trivia or mind twisters to get others to look through them, sprinked with some local ads could be a whole new advertising medium for local businesses.

If you can justify the ROI, swapping out some advertising for cool stuff to give away would be a fair trade. My owner likes to do giveaways every so often, but she buys crap from the dollar store. I have to laugh sometimes at the junk she gives away. :)

Thank you so much for all your input. Some great ideas here so far.

To that one post about "it's only $50 a year for paper, etc"... so? If I can save $50 and put it somewhere else, without doing something illegal, why the hell not!? Absolutely agree with you knightshow!

depending on your resources, and what the sponsors will and will not help you with, it can be a LOT more than $50!

I print out my own songbooks, update pages, and request slips. The cost isn't invisible, but I don't think about it too much as I have a laser printer where the tonor DOES last a very long time. Not an inkjet but a regular laser printer.

But that tonor? Pretty expensive WHEN you have to replace it.

And when I make ten books, I print out one master, and then go to kinkos to have them dupe it. around $300!
