Can a 100% Karaoke Show be proftable for a Venue on Fridays and Saturdays ?
OR is a 100% Karaoke show better suited for a Sunday-Thursday Slot.

In my last 2 venues (both Saturday Nights) it seems that crowds were more diverse requiring a bigger MIX of Regular versus Karaoke entertainment. I do see LARGER karaoke only crowds at other shows on TUESDAYS or WED nights. My Thursday night gig when the venue was open ( closes for winter) was a GREAT Karaoke Crowd almost 90% of the people SANG and couldn't get enough of SINGING.

What do you see at your shows or locales? ( let's keep this on topic )
Let's not get into a my show is better than your show pp contest.
I know there are some LONG running KARAOKE ONLY shows on the Weekends ..but are these the NORM or the UNUSUAL? If you are 100% Karaoke how do you see your crowds? Are they changing or growing ?

First off I think it is venue specific. It depends on your crowd.

I am all karaoke Wed, Fri, Sat. The draw to my venue is karaoke only. There is no dance floor and it is a small neighborhood bar. This is the norm for bars like mine. My crowd has grown through the yrs. and they expect nothing but karaoke.

Our show is definitely strong on Weekends, enough to support the bar all week. They used to have bands years ago on weekends, when karaoke took over, it tripled their revenue. Strictly karaoke, no dj. We do have a large dance floor that gets utilized almost nightly & a large base of better than average singers on weekends along with a very good sound system - not the typical karaoke stereotype system that even non-singers feel like they are more at a show than just karaoke.
Weeknights aren't as strong but usually steady enough to still make a profit after all is said & paid. Again strictly karaoke, no dj.

Like Babs said it might be completely club specific.

I don't do any Fri shows, but my Sat show is always packed, and it's pure karaoke.

Many of the bars around here that have the room have bands on Fri night. Even my main venue does, just to have some variety. I occasionally do a DJ only gig there on a Fri if they don't have a band scheduled.

At onother of my venues, we tried to get karaoke to work on Sat, but they decided to go with the band thing. My Wed night gig there, however, is HUGE, and consistently out-draws their weekend nights. Different rooms, different dynamics.

I think every town has that 1 KARAOKE BAR which is packed on the weekends.
Most likely due to a decent KJ and show and an owner/manager that allowed the show to grow so the dedicated singers can migrate there ..sort of "if you build it they will come" mentality. Currently my Saturday show like I said is a mix....the way management wants it ....Plenty of Karaoke but on occasion depending on the crowd he wants some dance/club type music. My last gig had a GOOD karaoke crowd on Saturdays until management and a rude bartender ran them off.
Once they found a home somewhere else it was TOUGH to get the back.

I have run weekend shows for years (not right now, taking a break) but have a standing invite to go back to my last one. In the PNW you can find karaoke anywhere any night almost...not to say quality is great... There are a few places that offer it every night but they're certainly not the shows I'd go to. Most places successfully run a combination of Wed, Thurs, Fri &/or Sat. We've run a Monday night show for 3-1/2 years. There are surprisingly few places that offer Fri & Sat shows comparatively. Many clubs use weeknights for karaoke, open mics, jams, etc., and reserve their weekends for bands.

Absolutely! My Saturday show is very healthy.

I have some weeknight singers who drop in on Saturday, but largely that's a different group. Like a lot of us, I have some "anchors", some who come in and out in waves of a few weeks or so, some who after awhile pretty much drop out of sight, and some newbies. In spite of the economy Saturdays have actually been growing, but Thursdays have slacked off a bit until now they're just about equal.

Which is good. Thursdays were driving me nuts!

I've never been able to mix dance music in without upsetting the singers. Not even one track. Which is also good because I don't consider myself a DJ anyway.

Bill - personally I would LOVE not to play any dj music.... It's so easy just to que up singers songs than to have to DJ and decide what to play LOL.

My Thursday gig was a nothing but back to back Karaoke ...all the singers LOVED it until quitting time......Then they all wanted to dance a few tunes LOL

We play six nights a week (Monday is laundry LOL). Our weekends are usually very busy (20-40 singers).

In my town (athens GA) there are about 10 different regular weekday shows but not a single show that happens every friday/saturday (bars close here sunday). I don't know of any one bar that does it more than 2 times a week though. I know of 6 one night karaoke bars, and 2 that have it twice a week (tues, thursday). Strangely there are no monday shows in town....
In addition there is a place that allows room rental karaoke in the Asian tradition (no kj).

I a weekday show that draws 20-30 singers, and occasional (about 1=2 times a month shows on fridays at a club and that always draws my biggest crowds (40-60 different singers). But the problem is that with a huge overabundance of live bands in town most of the clubs do live bands on weekends on a regular basis. For comparison there are usually 10-15 bars that have live bands playing most weekend days.

Before I started doing my monthly show I dont think I saw a weekend karaoke advertized in town for several years.
