You ever get curious about what your name means? Yeah, I do dumb stuff like that when I'm bored... so I felt compelled to share it with you all, since I'm sure you're dying to know this:
Quote: Meaning: Its source is Kharmion, a Greek name meaning "Delightful." (how true...) Quote: The girl's name Charmin \ch(ar)-min\ is a variant of Charmian (Greek), and the meaning of Charmin is "delight, joy". (see, not just delightful, but joyful as well...) Quote: CHARMIN is the most popular 21411'st name in USA. One in every 351,102 Americans are named as CHARMIN and popularity of name CHARMIN is 2.85 people per million.
(I almost qualify as 1 in a million... )
And... pretty much all the other adds I found online only described me as "squeezably soft"... but that's true as well.
I just thought I'd share that with you all;)
Have a good weekend peeps.

Cool.... make sure you let me know who he is when he joins. (so I can tell him all the naughty things you have done in the forums)
Just kiddin'....
But speaking of bluegrass, I gotta get practiced up, I'm working the River City Bluegrass Festival again this year and it's NEXT weekend... and I'm a bit rusty on the strings. (or always have been, and just hate to admit it) But.... (drum roll).... Ralph Stanley is going to be there this year, so I'm hyped. He's a big favorite of mine.
And don't roll your smilie eyes at me, my first post was all truth, and you know it;)

Hey, you can tell all you want, but everyone knows that I'm a perfect gentleman But even if Larry didn't believe you, we are kinfolk, and in West Virginia we stick together We are part of the Hatfield family you know
I will let you know when he subs. I need to get him set up on his computer, but first have to get some advice on recording mainly, as I have never got that far yet.
Good Luck with the festival, Ralph Stanley is awesome.
You gave me a good idea this morning at work too. I'll find some stained glass, bluegrass this morning on the radio, that pisses people off in a hurry, lol.

Did I ever tell you that my maiden name is... McCoy? Quote: I will let you know when he subs. I've been computer recording 4 & 1/2 years now and STILL don't know diddly. But give a holler if you need help, I might could be of use in some small area;) Quote: Good Luck with the festival, Ralph Stanley is awesome. Yeah, I'm pretty pumped about it. He's on sunday, so hopefully that means he'll do a bluegrass gospel set. Quote: I'll find some stained glass, bluegrass this morning on the radio, that pisses people off in a hurry, lol.
I play my own radio/cds at work... my boss has just learned to "deal with" my taste in music, . But he's got good taste in music, I've borrowed a few of his cd's at work before. (no rap or classical.. so it's all good)

Charmin is a brand of toilet paper in the UK. Advertised by a big bear in the woods (thus answering that eternal question), and the jingle "Ch-ch-ch-charmin!"...
It's tagline is that it is "squeezably soft"

Is your family from the Appalacia area? If so, we could be rivals going way back, but no one could be mad at a Charmin I suppose .......

Almost forgot Charmin, Thanks for your offer to help with recording.
Since my system is complete, and all set up, I think I'll have cous come over and record at my place. I do have Compuhost with the record feature, but I have never checked into it to see what I have to do, or need to do to record. I think Lonnie said once that it is preferred to have a second computer to record to? I would appreciate any advice on that from anyone, but maybe I should start a new thread in the tech section if need be... ........Ron

Ron it is best to setup a DAW for audio and tune according the OS you have to get rid of all the crap that you dont need. I have recorded entire 4 hour shows into WAV files but it takes a lot of hard drive space.
Multi-track software such as Sonar takes a lot of memory and resources. Years ago during a long recording session we had do a disc cleanup and reboot when we started getting audio dropouts. That was with a 1 gig cpu and 512 MB of ram.
Give me your computer make and model and OS and I can advise further.

Ollie, I was kidding about the McCoy thing... as close as I come is McBride, that was my paternal great-grandmother's family name. (my Irish ancestors)

You have WHAT in the UK? Perhaps I should contact an attorney and see about getting some kind of royalty for them using my name in such a manner? (and obviously for monetary gain) .....

Ollie, the computer that I have set up for karaoke now is an old gateway pc with a 1.4 processor. I am running windows XP, and compuhost, and do have sonar (not that I have any idea how to use it). The computer has been upgraded with 1 gig of ram (I think thats what I put in 2 years ago), the internal harddrive is a 320 gig, the external drive is 500 gig, and the video card was upgraded for my second screen. The sound card is a sound blaster platinum pro that has the remote control, and all the external hookups etc. The sound card is supposed to have some type of recording provision itself, but again , no idea how to use it. I had this computer put together for my son, and his music a couple of years ago, and I just reverse inherited it back from him since he's an apple man now. Even though the small processor works great for compuhost, and all the related programs. I have no idea about what extra demand recording might require of my "antique" processor.
........Ron

Ron the 1.2 gig should be adequate. The first test is with compuhost running do cntrl-alt-delete and see waht the cpu usage percentage is. It should be less than 10%.
Next test With compuhost runnung go accessories->system tools->tools tab->display. Run the direct draw test a few times and see if you have audio dropouts. I havnt tried this for awhile but I think with the 1.2 after a few times dropouts are normal.
go
Win XP, register and do these tuneups. Msconfig casn be used to stop background stuff that isnt needed.
Sonar can be intimidating at first put takes a lot of practice.

Ok Ollie, I'll get back to ya on the cpu usage.
I just went and checked the hardware, and I have 640mb of ram, not 1 gig. Also, it is a pentium 4, even though she's old....Ron

Yeah, take Ollies advice on recording/setup stuff.
What little offer of help I gave ya is nothing in comparison to his knowledge;)
I'll just read along and I may learn something too.

Ummm, father's family is from Oklahoma/Louisiana. Mother's family has been in Texas as far back as we can trace. But you can trace my family tree quite a ways back and find lots & lots of hillbillies, Lol.
And trust me, lots of people get mad at Charmin all the time. But I'm into pleasing only myself these days, so I let it roll of my back. I tried the Hatfield/McCoy thing of shooting at them across the holler, but that just got me in trouble with the law....

I will Charm, no problem...Just wondering though, what software do you use to record? I think Vicki, and a few others said they use audacity?
If Compuhost has it's recording capabilities already, do I need any other program?

Well, I was born in Canyon Lake, kind of a resort town in Texas (on the outskirts of New Braunfels) and I was raised most of my life on a cattle ranch..... so, no "hollers" for me either. Creeks and fishing ponds and farm fields all around, but no "hollers".
I only learned about them by bluegrass songs. Growing up, "holler" was something you did NOT want to make momma do;)
