I am from the generation when most everybody had chickens in the back yard for eggs and food Everybody butchered in the fall for the winter. link There are towns now that are making it legal to have chickens inside the city limits. With the present economy I think people will go back to the old ways. The old ways got families through the great depression because they had a certain amount of self sufficiency. Neighbors helped neighbors. We do need to rescind a bunch of laws that they passed, in fact we would be better off if they spent their time getting rid of laws instead of passing more. Folks will be using water for gardens instead of lawns. |

When the feds came in to tell my people how to live, and what not to brew , they might not leave those mountains! Just kiddin Ollie, BUT...if things continue you get worse, a real man does what he needs to do to take care of his family, and if anyone tried to prevent me from doing so, it would get real ugly fast. I do want to step up my charities on the local level to those I know need help. The organized ones that fly around in "concorde" jets (well they used to, remember United Way) can kiss my arse, they won't get a dime. No kids will ever go hungry in my community if I know anything about it, and actually, thats the way it's supposed to be....Ron |

Where I grew up my neighbors would purchase chickens to slaughter in their backyard every summer and my other neighbor had turkeys and chickens year round. These weren't farms, but we lived in the sticks. The area was more forest than farm country. Here's a funny story. One day our neighbor's turkey got loose and it decided to target our house. It wouldn't let us leave. It kept running around the house and any time we'd try to leave it would be standing right there blocking the door. Turkey's are big animals. This one didn't seem to be afraid of people, but ready to attack. We still laugh about the Killer Turkey that kept us hostage for a day. |

I am starting to distill my own ethanol to power my lawnmower. And it sure does smell good, perhaps I should taste it |

We calculate that with the cost of feed these days, our eggs are only running us about $10/dozen. |
