Post subject:  Karaoke player - two computers, 1 monitor - what to do?

Hi,

I've recently setup karaoke at home in my home theater, and really like the sound of it. The problem is the interface, because I have everything running through my desktop computer (mic input, software mixer), which is connected to the TV, while I use my laptop to let people search songs from my database. The problem is that once a song as ended, I then have to minimize the program, search through the songs, and then play the next one. This can take up to a minute, and looks really unprofessional and awkward, and was wondering if there was a better solution. I'm not sure if any of the hoster programs are designed for two computers to be used at once (laptop to control, another computer to store the files/sound card as inputs for mics, etc...), but I was wondering if I could use the laptop to somehow control the sequence of songs for the desktop computer.

I'm aware this is a strange setup, but hope there's a better solution than the one I've come up with. I've been using karafun to play the songs, and Song List Generator to make the list of searchable songs. Thanks!

There is a way you can do the search and enter of the songs from the laptop and send it to the desktop. AutoKDJ has a frontend that running on your laptop can send your song choice to your desktop's player, it is actually the only one other than weed's program that does this. Both are winamp based programs. AutoKDJ uses the media library of winamp to store and control winamp's karaoke hosting feature while Sack O'nuts is it's own control program for winamp. AutoKDJ is Vista compatable while SON isn't. www.autokdj.com is where you can get the kiosk program and AutoKDJ. All is needed is three downloads, winamp, AUtoKDJ and AUtoFE. The AUtoKDJ contains the mp3+G plugin and the pacemaker one as well.

AutoKDJ's frontend and kiosk option allows the singers to enter their songs from a separate computer .. www.autoKDJ.com . There's also a setting where it'll start playback of the song when the first track gets entered into the system
