I know some hosts have trailers. My set up will not be going in a trailer. I'd like to get some small mobile fold up movers. What does everyone use? What do you think of the cart below?

I had a Rock 'N' Roller before and unfortunately they're not very long lasting.

One of my venues let me borrow their hand truck all the time. After my trailer got stolen I bought the same hand truck. It's not the cheapest one for sure, but it is very sturdy and convenient.

I've always just used a standard handtruck as well. One with real tires on it, not just the molded rubber/plastic wheels.

I found one similar to those at farm and fleet although I doubt the weight rating was that high, maybe 400lb. It actually had a handle you could pull out, drop the cart down and it had 4 wheels so I could load both speakers on it if I wanted to go that way. I would agree I wouldn't want to buy anything with cheap wheels.

Do you guys use velcro straps of some kind to keep equipment from wobbling off the cart?

Only thing with a cart type roller is if you need to lift up on a curb or bring it up stairs, you will have to either convert it back to a handcart or lift the equipment off the cart & hand lift it up.

I don't use straps when using a handtruck. If you stack the 2 speakers, you can get those in one trip.

I've been using the Rock N'Roller mid-sized cart for over two years now, three times a week, and have had zero problems. Carries heavy loads, folds flat. The only time I would prefer a regular hand truck is on stairs, as Lonman said.

As an old man my system has lightened over the years. Things to consider if you plan to do parties. You will run into small elevators with doors that once they find out you are bringing in the gear will try to pin and kill you. You will run into 40 flights of stairs. You will haul equipt through snow drifts and over ice and mud. Big wheels on dollys etc.

One thing not mentioned here is canvass tarps and tie downs for outside gigs and transporting thru inclement weather. I have had speakers blown down in high winds and lcd monitors ruined in the rain.

I went to a Pioneer seminar on cd jukeboxes when they decided to enter the market. The engineer told us they soon realized they first thing they had to do was design a box that ops could haul around in the back of a pickup truck exposed to the weather and survive. THEY DiD \!!! I dropped one off a Tommy lift.

With experience I could write a tutorial on transporting and protecting gear. Even on small boats or the high seas. LOL Good thread!!!

As an added story we dropped a 200 vynal jukebox (Wurlitzr) down a flight of stairs. It took me over an hour to put all the records in the right slots. The box still worked It had a 100 watt tube amp...

We got a handtruck/dolly from sams club. The handle is held in with cotter pins. The 12 space road runner case is last to unload and remians on cart during show. For us this places the board at perfect height. Curbs? The handle cand be placed at a 90 angle to the cart for pulling around and lifting over curbs. Tires are pneumatic, not solid rubber. Smaller wheels are casters/shopping cart style. Pivots easily. Not perfect for mud and slush but great on pavement. Looks loke this one but lower weight rating and price.

The one I use is very much like the one shown from sams club. Got it at Lowes for around 80 bucks...best money i've spent. However, I am currently looking at modifying the small wheels, because like Lonnie says, wheels are very important. I want to put a set of pneumatic tires in their place...Gonna take some engineering a bit.
