I would like to stand in proxy for SGB, whose doors have been closed and locked around 5 years or so. No worries, and all is forgiven... |

Greg Here's the simple reality. There are some of us, for whatever reason, who believe that they are the "final say" as to what is good and what is "junk". Someone will make the observation that in purchasing a particular piece of equipment someone is buying "cheap", without knowing if that's all they can afford. If someone says that all the money they have to work with, someone will tell them to save up their money. Well, no one has the right to tell someone else how to budget or spend their money. Being respectful of others, I will tell them the pros and cons of taking a particular action and leave it to them to decide. For example, when I joined this forum I asked about the Fender Passport system to use as a KJ. You can't believe some of the snide remarks my question generated. Meanwhile, I had been to shows that use the Passport. I like it. It was also recommended to me by others who understood my short term goals. One KJ had the 150, 250 and 500 watt units of the Passport. So... I bought the Passport and have never regretted or give it a second thought. Nonetheless, there have been people who tell me that the Passport can't possible be any good. Well... it's good enough for me and my audience. What more should I concern myself with? Lastly, when someone describes a choice of another in a really derogatory way, don't they realize that they are also denigrating the opinion of those who disagree with them. And what makes one persons opinion more correct or more valuable than another, or gives someone the right to call something I like - "trash"? |

No the simple reality of it is everyone has their own opinion and when asked, they are going to give it - simple enough! If they don't like something, yeah they will tell you, same as if they like something - again, they will tell you. What is the point in asking question to base an opinion of your own from others responses? I am not going to endorse something or give praise to something that I personally would never use because of either bad experiences or have done homework & tested on hand. Simple enough! |

Lonman, Your opinion is well respected and valued. There is a difference between providing an opinion, particularly with options, including pros and cons, vs denigrating someone elses opinion by telling them their choice is "trash" or "junk"! |

Eric, I second what you've said here totally. For example, Lonman, I very much "respect" your opinions here not because you are knowledgeable (although you are), but because of your delivery. There are others here I very much respect as well. Not singling anyone out, so please no one jump on me, but often one might give an opinion here and the responses, although often well thought out and informative, often can make a person feel talked down to and get argumentative. I personally want to have honest informative intellectual conversations that discuss whatever the topic and get valid responses that help me learn a little bit. It's ok that somebody's opinion is different, but its all in how its said (or typed) in this case. |
