Hello everyone,

I am a relatively new KJ and please pardon my ignorance on this issue, but I am trying to figure out the best way to switch between a computer system running Siglos Karaoke Pro and running singer discs with as little impact as possible.

I am using a Dell C400 laptop, which is great, but it has an external disc drive. It can read the CD-Gs, but the external cable (proprietary, non-USB) occasionally gets jarred and causes the connection to be a problem. Siglos will pause and allow me to insert a cd-g, and it usually works fine, but about 1 time in every 5 it causes a glitch and I have to fix the cable and restart Siglos to continue.

I am going to get newer equipment this year, and I am wondering how other KJs handle this, especially with karaoke players in their rack. Will other software like Compuhost allow me to switch between the computer and a player seamlessly? Does it involve a video switcher?

I will probably be upgrading the laptop shortly as well, I do not know if the new laptop will be able to read cd-gs or not.

thanks for your help and suggestions, as always!

I have a secondary player, and switch using an A/B switch for video. Mixer handles the different inputs

I prefer a separate player & a simple video switch. Both the computer & player go into the switch & output to the tv. When I get a customer disc, I load it up & when it's that singers turn, I switch the video & hit play. When it's done I switch back. All audio (computer & player) still goes to the mixer on their own channels.
