Okay, not really, but just for venting's sake, what two songs would you absolutely do away with if you could? Not even bad songs necessarily, maybe ones that are sung too often or always sung badly. I'm going with "Crazy" for females (sung every freakin' night!), and "My Way" for guys (always sung by shouting retired guys with Sinatra complexes).

#1 Paradise by the Dashboard Light for length alone. It seems like it's always chosen at the end of the night when I'm trying to squeeze singers in.
#2 Anything by Celine Dion/Mariah Carey. Sorry, but there just aren't that many (if any at all!) who can even come close to performing this stuff in any decent fashion and it ends up being a wail-fest. (Heck! I can't even stand the ORIGINAL artists for the same wail-fest reason.)

This thread comes up every few months. It is always fun.

Some that people must have heard about, because they might as well be banned for how often they are done around here anymore:

1. Picture (yes, once every 4 or 5 shows!)
2. Sweet Caroline
3. Before He Cheats

My personal gaggers these days:

1. Black Velvet
2. Total Eclipse of the Heart
3. Stay
4. Summer Nights (reared its ugly head here now)

Madu; an Indonesian song should be ban. Someone should connect the CIA to delete it from the surface of the earth.

If you don't believe how bad it is just try listen to it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDKX8gKq16I

This one got requested every nite ; a few time a night for the 1 and the half year.

+1
I lasted 1:27, and that wasn't easy.
For the most part. I don't care for any techno-pop music.

Crazy is an occasion here & My Way is practically never done - but then our avg age group is 21-40.

I would pull out
Walk - Pantera (EVERY night)
Bodies - Drowning Pool (EVERY night)
guys & gals - don't matter, they do them both to death & sometimes in groups. But you can sure count on them being done once per night.

Hotel Cali is a regular, at least once a week. The rest no.

I have three songs that get sung regularly that make me wish I was temporarily deaf:

1. Picture
2. Summer Nights
3. Love Shack

Ode to My Car, American Pie, and PBTDBL. All removed from my books. Here's why: Ode To My Car- Cute or funny the first time; Tiresome every week. American Pie- Too long. Paradise- As stated earlier, almost always requested at the end of the night, usually by drunks who can't even stand for eight minutes, let alone sing.

I do occasionally allow the last two if there is time and I know the singers can do them justice. They are crowd pleasers and sing-alongs if done well.

Most of the other songs mentioned in this and other threads like it do serve a purpose. They may get over-sung, but they often add to the good times that we are trying to create. Summer Nights, Friends In Low Places, Love Shack- More times than not, these songs get people involved who hadn't been paying attention all night. Bodies- Gets attention, a few seem to like it. I'm glad it is not sung more than every few months at my shows.

Crusin' - The Huey Lewis Gweneth Paltrow version from Duets.
I could care less to hear it again.

I have to disagree with the Friends in Low Places one. It gets sung here everytime as does A Country Boy Can Survive, Sweet Home Alabama, You Never Even Call Me By My Name, and Why Don't We Get Drunk and.....

Being A Southern boy I could listen to those everytime (well there are a lot of butchers, maybe not everytime)

"I Love This Bar"

Bohemian Rhapsody

I could come up with more if I tried.

OMG!! Forgot about Bohemian Rhapsody!! Think I'll just take that one out of my book!! No one does it well...and even if they did...it's too long and boring unless you're in your car alone and have nothing else to listen to!!

Right on about Love Shack though...people do get involved with it...I just wish they didn't want me to help them so often! Usually it's the girls and they need a guy so I get left with trying to sing out of my range...

I'm actually quite surprised to see ANYONE has actually removed known songs! I mean, I can't stand some of those, but what is junk to us is another person's treasure chest!

Songs I cringe upon hearing certain songs... but I'd never impose my will like THAT!

Oh-kay...

for my unwanted horrors, I think these two songs are ones that GOTTA get broken, if possible! LOL!

"The Rose" - Bette Midler. A good friend of mine just NAILS it, but every time I hear it I cringe. I never even liked the original that much!
"Turn The Page" - I'm a huge Bob Segar fan and most people can't sing it... and those that can are immediately lumped into those that can't! And yes, I CAN nail it! LOL!

A funny thing is I started keeping track of how many times "Picture" has been sung since the third month I started doing karaoke. I realized how desperately sick of it I was and why. So far it is up to 615 times, not including the ones I forgot to mark down when busy! I keep a grand total in my rotation book, and it is one of the running jokes in my show, LOL Everyone there knows how I feel about that song.

Some other songs I would include...

Down With The Sickness (always done by a drunken screamer at my shows)
Hotel California
Before He Cheats
Bodies
The Ride (heard a million times)
Love Shack
When I'm Gone (I used to like this one...)

And that is it for now!
