hello everyone. My name is Luis and i'm trying to build a dj karoke setup and hopefully put it to use were i can make some extra cash. i love to sing and have a pretty good latin selection. i got the idea to go public after my recent trip to Mexico. Anyway when i was down there i saw the KJ using their laptops to play there music. I have about 300+ cdg and want to do the same thing were i don't have to carry much. The thing is I don't know what program I need. Any ideas? thanks.

For professional hosting, I recommend CompuHost:

http://www.kjtools.com/

For casual hosting, you might try KaraFun or Winamp and its MP3+G/CDG plugin.

Check out Winamp. It's a good place to start (free and easy to understand).

The 1st progam you will need will be a RIPPER - something to convert your CDG's into mp3+g files for your laptop- Some of the more expensive Hosting softwares include a ripper ...allthough you can find it FREEWARE ie: "audiograbber"
Make sure you have a CDburner capable of reading the CDG codes. (very important)

You will find many variations of programs that can play a mp3+g file and display graphics. Things to consider within each program. ROTATION MANAGEMENT - DIGITAL KEY CHANGER - SINGER HISTORY - SEARCH FEATURES - ABILITY PLAY REGULAR MUSIC - ETC ETC

Recently I purchased a program called KJ PRO - a Latshaw Program for only $99
so far very pleased with its fetaures , sound and simplicity

I'd like to point out I've been a pro host for a long time, and yeah, I used Winamp for the majority of my computer hosting years.

Software for your computer is as individualistic as the users themselves. What works for some or even MOST, may not work for YOU specifically. It depends on your needs.

For me, I found the pro hosting capabilities of clubdjpro to be all I would ever need.

I use Sax and Dottys and don't have to convert any songs. It unzips and plays them and then puts them back. All nice and neat and clean system. Easy and inexpensive enough.
