Well, I started that new show at the Irish Pub last night.
It went fairly well for a first night and for the first gig of my own since last spring! As fate would have it, though, I encountered computer problems that slowed things down till I fixed it. Nonetheless, they want me back
The new QSC's did the trick for the size venue that it is. So much sound and so much power. I realized yesterday morning that with the speakers being so far apart (unlike the small venues I've been used to), that I needed a powered audio monitor. So I ran over to Sam Ash and grabbed what they had in the $200-300 range!
Meanwhile, I am far from accomplished on using in my new Yamaha mixer, though I practiced/rehearsed with it for several days. And last night, after plugging in the monitor I quickly learned there was a great deal more to using it that just turning it on and plugging it into the mixer.
Everything will go even better and much smoother next week.
Oh, and I picked up two Creative Labs SB x-Fi sound cards today on sale at CompUSA/TigerDirect.

Awesome, Eric! Glad to hear your gig went well.
I, too, am having to use a monitor at my newest venue because the speaker of the house system are out front of the stage and it's just too hard to hear if you're standing on the stage. The system there is really good (hubby sold and installed it) but you really do need that monitor. Unless, of course, you have a wireless mic and can walk out into the crowd.
And you're right, mixing a montior is alot different than mixing for front of house sound.
Like you, it will take me some practice to nail down the way I want it.
