Recently one of my KJ friends wanted to give me something like 50 k songs. I laughed and said it would take me months to rename and get rid of dups. And I would wind up with 49k of songs that would never be used. I have a library that I am very proud of. It consists of about 13 k which I prune as I get new ones. It is compiled from the last ten years and has all the favorites. I can build books from the files and there are very very few typos or dups. It is the result of many years of work. I will admit maybe I have a few songs that I didnt buy maybe 200. So bust me!!!!

It is a list which I can put online in a search engine. This list does not reflect the new ones I have added the last year. Use this search engine. It will break favs down by decade and shows all my karaoke and DJ library. Use the filters to your advantage. This list is used for requests for private parties including weddings. If you plan to attend my show you can put in a request if I dont have it and I will try to get it before you attend my show. I offer download facilities at the show and you can buy or I will buy and add to my library. We have all the modern conviences and are here to serve you. Cabaret Karaoke Greeley Colorado..

I don't judge - could care less about legal or illegal.
But if you have 200 illegal tracks ---- You might as well have taken the 50K :D :D

Which is why I always laugh in the faces of people that want to swap libraries. They want what I have because they can't get it (or don't want to pay for it). Why on Earth would I want to give them the songs I have so they can have them too?

Because you're buddies.

I've made a few homemade karaoke tracks on my computer and KJ's are always asking me for copies of them. I made them so I can sing them and not run into shows where every KJ has the same songs. If you give it to one person, you might as well give them to everyone because it won't be very long before everyone has them. That is one of the main reasons that I like to go to shows that play discs in a regular karaoke machine and not in their laptops. It takes way too long to put these tracks together to give them away to people that you barely know.

The original post said that his friend wanted to GIVE him songs. Now, I don't know if he was talking about MP3 or Wav files, burnt discs, or extra original manufacturers' discs.

I don't know about you guys, but if someone were to offer me extra manufacturers' discs as a gift, I would take them in a heartbeat!

On the other hand, I'm not a pirate and they can keep their burned discs.

Ethics aside, I think anyone who accepts untested computer files ( if they are PC based) is just nuts- who knows what's in them, or their effect on your rig?

In other posts I have stated how many songs I have. I have a bunch more money in cd's than the system. I have thousands in songs which were never used. I havnt had anybody bring in a cd in years but when they did I considered it a cd that I should get after looking at the songs on it.

There are a few hosts in town that have that expansive library of junk. That doesnt hurt. What does is hiring out for peanuts. The bar owners learned here that cheapos do not bring in the crowds. This is not a vocation to me but in other trades we put the shade tree mechanics and techs working out of their garage out of business. At one time I got tired of everybody wanting me to fix their tv or stereo so I started saying I wont even take the back for less than $100. Pretty soon they were knocking my door down.

With download facilities at a fair price per song the big hard drives are worthless. If somebody was selling cd's on the street that were illegal copies who would they arrest? The seller or or the buyers? Even if I put them in a jukebox I am not liable for their legality.
