What does everyone use for DJing? I have compuhost, it does have filler music but you have to pre pick your playlist and difficult to change out. Not sure if that is a big issue or not never having DJed before. I also have iTunes and I could use that with a blank playlist to click and drag my music to but I wouldn't be able to fade from one song to another. Do some of you have separate software for DJ and KJ?

i havnt tried others for awhile I use Roxbox with several, playlists including big band , 50's 60's and most genres. I can call up a playlist in less than a second and be playing. In fact i have playlists for weddings or any occasion. My fill music is suited for the crowd and changes with demand. For karaoke and DJ it is the software that suits my needs. Some (most) here will knock it but it is the best for Kj/DJ formats bar none. It might be the only hoster that has 2 players for karaoke or mp3 with separate data bases and the fastest search engine going.

If you want a hoster for all needs and need a software that you can tailor for your needs I rec Roxbox. it is written for Windows can be changed with window properties and font size type and background colors can be changed. It is written by an active karoke host and not by software writers that have never hosted a show.

I prefer the pcdj line of DJ/KJ products like "PCDJVJ" or "PCDJFX" with a kj hosting plug in. You can go to mp3gmusic.com and check out different manus of software products for 30 day free trials. Take the time to find a program that works well for you. You might even want to step up to VJing.

clubdjpro is really good, and does karaoke as well. As well as video!

And you just can't do better than pcdjRED. To me, that's the best dj software out there!

Thanks guys. I really don't plan on buying another kj program, compuhost will dj for me, i can set up playlists before hand and save them and call them up in a few seconds, it will have one song fade into the next. It's not very flexible however, if someone comes up and wants to hear a song that's not on my playlist, what's a guy to do? From that standpoint, itunes will work but again, it won't fade.

Any other methods people are using?

OK, here's my setup...

I host with compuhost.

My filler music is Winamp. I also DJ so Winamp has all my regular DJ library on it.

Use a crossfade of about 8 seconds.

Now... I have bought a thing called a powerwheel by garmin I believe. A simple usb wheel that can map to any function.

I have mapped it to Winamp's global hotkeys.

So for filler tunes, when the karaoke song stops, I use it to fade up Winamp. I then use it again to fade out winamp just before another karaoke song begins. If you press it, that can be assigned to play/pause winamp.

So basically it allows me to fade the winamp volume but not the system.

Sounds interesting, is winamp something I can download? What's the cost?

I'm with Dangerous. When I absolutely HAVE to use the PC (maybe a tiny party) I use PCDJ/KJ Red- the original version. Works like a charm for everything. Still won't switch from disc based for PUBLIC venues though... :P

Click on player 2 Search for the song and you have the option of putting it next or in any order of the current playlist. ROFL

It takes all of 2 seconds. If you want to auto fade to that song after karaoke just highlight it.

Winamp is free. And so worth every penny:

1) Very small footprint
2) Very customisable
3) Very fast
4) Great visualisation support
5) Excellent library management
6) Plays everything.

Heck, I used to use Winamp as well as a few scripts I wrote to host entire shows. Karaoke (mp3+g) playback, time remaining, on-screen rotation...

I do not trust any software that PCDJ comes out because the original PCDJ Red would not reckognize over half of my dj songs. had a friend where it did the same to him. I use DJ MIx Pro (a $20 program) for dj only shows. NOt only fades but beat matches as well. If I am providing karaoke as well as DJ I run Compuhost only. The filler player works well enough for my purposes.

I agree here. Benn using it for about 4 years myself. 1 nice thing about it is it will go through all the music & it will automatically sense where the songs start/stop points will be (these can also be edited if need be). Most programs you either have to edit each song individually or there is just a set start/stop point for every song that may not work well with each other.
It also does auto beat matching as well. Not to mention karaoke if needed, although I have never used it yet.

a couple of programs won't recognize certain settings on some mp3 songs... if you downloaded them, if you ripped them or they had settings that were ripped that confuse some computer software.

Many of those cases can be solved by using goldwave or some other kind of software that will let you adjust settings... you can resave the file at a higher or lower mbps.

I use winamp along with Sax and Dottys for my karaoke program. Gets the job done and very simple to use!

I use PCDJ KJ for my karaoke.

WinAmp for Filler Music

Virtual DJ for mixing music and videos.

I use a 4 output stereo soundcard

1-2 PCKJ
3-4 WinAmp
5-6 Virtual DJ Main Out
7-8 Virtual DJ Monitor Out

No other program can handle the advanced mixing I do than Virtual DJ other than serato. I'm not into record control so I never looked into anything after I found Virtual DJ.

I too, have been using OtsAVDJ for a little over four years. I started using it just for DJing...but lately have been switching over all my karaoke to hard drive and plan to use Ots for KJ also. It's been a great program...just professional enough, but not so over the top that I can't figure it out...since I'm not a REAL DJ! lol I don't spin etc.

I am in the process of converting all my karaoke zips to the ots format and it's taking forever...I have to unzip, convert to ots, then have ots import it...it's time consuming. So far though I've been pretty happy with the results. The one thing I really need to learn now is how to run a karaoke line-up with ots. I've seen that there is a way to keep the singers names there and to have them 'scroll' across the monitor for all to see who the next singer is...but i haven't had the time to read the help file to figure out how to do this.

I'd like to find a cheap DJ-only program that beat matches and auto fades nicely to use for filler music on an extra laptop I have....I don't like loaning my newer laptop to one of my other KJ's.

Would WinAmp do this?

Yes, Winamp will, along with this plugin, which is much better (smarter) than the crossfader built into Winamp http://www.sqrsoft.com.ar/index.php

It does not beat match, but the crossfader does search for and find the ideal crossfade point for the 2 songs involved.

Also Stogie has mentioned a DJ program for around $20 - $25 that actually does crossfade and beatmatch. http://www.djmixpro.com/djmixpro/djmixpro.html

It is not much to look at but it actually does a very good job of beat matching.

RLC! Thank you! I have installed the plugin and so far it seems to be exactly the right solution for me!

Now that other KJ of mine will quit *itchin' about having to use Media Player for his filler music...he got spoiled with OTS but he doesn't need my OTS for karaoke shows!

Thanks Again!
