OK, here's a thought...

I host in compuhost. I do my filler music in Winamp. I also DJ - for which I use winamp again.

I know under XP you can assign the output of Winamp to any soundcard.

Could I use 2 USB soundcards. One mapped as the default, so Compuhost used it. Another mapped to Winamp.

Thus allowing me to crossfade between then two on my mixer?

Shouldn't be a problem .. Control P in Winamp.. go down to Output .. NullSoft DirectSound output, then change it from Primary Sound Driver to the specific card

I thought that's how it would work, but wasn't sure.

It's food for thought...

Just for my own understanding... Why do you use Winamp for filler music and not the built in function in CH?

Because the library functions in Compuhost are toss compared to those in Winamp.

I agree - I've installed a program from winamp called Wincue to handle searching and queueing stuff www.wincue.org

Don't get me wrong, I like Comuhost, and if I had the presence of mind, I'd build up some playlists and use their autofiller functions.

But I DJ also, and a lot of the time people book me for DJ & karaoke. Part of that DJing is reading the crowd and seeing what music is going to get them moving and motivated.

Winamp will liet me find a song instantly. Compuhost has more of a "here's all your songs, pick one" mindset...

you can set up your playlist through winamp and use it in Compuhost if you choose to. That is what I do so I can figure out if I have enough time covered by the music. I play five hours so I load five hours of music. The only thing I don't like about Compuhost's filler player, and I almost want to mention it on their forum, is that if you shut down autoplay to do straight karaoke like I do it cuts a song out of the list in the area that loads in the player and sometimes that song(most times) is the one song I want to play.

Why do you think Compuhost needs to use only the default sound card?

Compuhost allows you te select the sound card it uses, one for karaoke and another for filler if you wish to route the two separately.

You should find a sound device setup button in Compuhost's Setup and Devices.

I never assumed it did. Just easier to use default for one and change the other.

Sure, but as a DJ who also does karaoke - I like to work with the music dependant upon the night, the crowd and the feeling. Stored playlists are only as suggestions, never just played one all the way through.

I adjust my playlist on the fly very easily as I get requests that might not be in my original playlist. Their search feature is close to what you would search for a karaoke song with. just got to remember to hit recursive search to locate a single song using add song. If you want to move it to the next song played just hit cue with the song you want moved highlighted, much easier than using winamp in my opinion. If you want it at the top of the list but want to play the song cued up already you just hit the top botton on the lefthand side, again easier than using winamp. If it is in the playlist already then I just click on the playlist's search type in search words for the song I want and hit search. Then I apply the above tactics to move the song to where I want. Again easier than winamp. In fact I just talked myself into using Compuhost for both karaoke and DJ only gigs as it is even easier to use than what I use for dj only gigs. I just didn't want to have to install the dongle just for dj purposes.

Sorry but I am forced to disagree.

I look for songs by genre, artist, year, BPM...

I beatmatch, I crossfade cued songs, etc.

Compuhost IS NOT up to the task of actually DJing. You can play music with it, sure - but not DJ.

Why not get one soundcard with all the outputs you need?

This is what I use.

Interesting bit of kit. Does Windows see that as 4 separate output devices?

Do yourself a favor Nlouch. Take quick look at DJMixPro. Free to demo and only $20US to buy if you like it. It has lots of features and it's very simple to learn and use. It would be a very good program to use for straight DJing or along with Compuhost to do what you are describing. Several people here are using it now after looking at it. I found out about it on a DJ forum.

I'm pretty sure you can use 2 Behringer Ucontrol USB sound cards at the same time. They go for around $30 US each. No drivers needed, just plug into the USB port and in a few seconds you're playing music.

It has (2) RCA jacks for Input and (2) RCA for output. It also has a headphone out jack so really you can use it either way depending on which cable you choose. I've plugged one into my mixer using both at the same time into different channels.

Since it has the two input jacks, you can use it to record on your PC using Audacity or some other recording software. Plug the input jacks into the Tape/CD out or control room out on your mixer and the sound card takes care of it.
