Any opinion on the amps shown at $500 or less?
How would it work to power a sub as part of a system that uses powered speakers?

I decided that the Samson PG3800 is the best bang for the buck out there.
560wpc@8ohms, 900wpc@4ohms, 1800wpc@2ohms. You can get a great deal on it from Northern Light FX. It's about $325. Ask for Ben and tell him The wizard of Oz from ODJT sent you. I've gotten some good deals from them and their service is excellent. Very good people.

If you find or know of a better deal as far as wpc/$ from a reputable manufacturer I'm very interested in knowing about it. The closest best deal is a Behringer EP2500 for about the same price, but less power output.

American Audio VLP1500 is 500wpc@8ohms, 750wpc@4ohms for about the same price, but I don't know about their quality and I've never read of anyone using American Audio amplifiers.

I trust Samson products. They're not top of the line like Electro Voice, Crown or QSC, but Samson is a very good middle of the road manufacturer. I've used some of their products and I don't think it's a risk to buy any of their products.

You need to match the amp output with the speaker needs. If you have specific speakers you are driving then then post them and you'll get someone giving you the options on what the specs needs to be for that speaker set. For brand names I only have experience with QSC and Crown with no bad notes on either of them although I do prefer QSC's assembly, real solid and reliable.

Now that being said, I've only been an operations guy until recently and had a technical guy making all the right decisions on equipment. There are guys here (like Lonman, LondonLive, Karaokyer) that sure know a lot more than most about this and will most likely give you good guidelines to ensure the best sound of whatever you're trying to drive.

Are you looking for a specific power range? What speakers are you planning on powering with the amp?

Actually, I was intending to match a sub with the amp most favored by the forum!

However.... I just purchased, in the last few hours, a powered Carvin sub that Lonman recommended.

Nonetheless, I would appreciate continuing to receive input regarding amps in my targeted price range.

It is my belief that amps in a similar price range can be compared to one another without consideration of the specific speakers that will be in use. Even if I match an amp with a specific speaker today, what happens if I replace those speakers or get additional speakers later? What would I do then?

Is what I'm asking unreasonable?

Carvin DCM2000 for $500. Good solid power @ 425 per channel @ 8 ohms, bridgeable to 2000 watts at 4 ohms.

Interesting, especially seeing how I am one of the few on here that believe in future proofing my system by having more power available than I may need today. Almost every previous recommendation I have ever seen here has been for the bare minimum to get by with. Believe it or not, I actually read the entire thread and put some thought into the question before leaving a comment. I only asked the questions so I could make an informed recommendation for something in the price range that would meet your needs. So in the future, any questions I find a little vague I won't ask for clarification, I will just not answer at all. By, the way, I thought I had recommended the Carvin also. Have a great day, I think I'll have a beer.

London and anyone else I may have accidentally slighted:

I guess, in order to have avoided slighting anyone, I should have said, "a Carvin sub, 'ORIGINALLY SUGGESTED' by Lonman, subsequently endorsed by others, particularly when compared to the Samson!

And if you come to Ft Lauderdale I 'll buy you a beer!
