Ok everyone, what song or songs is it that at some point in the night you can get everyone (or many) to sing along in the audience? Honestly I've never seen this happen at a bar but at my family get togethers Minnie the Moocher and Sweet Caroline got everyone involved.

Also, what is your "signature" song (if you sing). Or songs if more than one.

Right now I like Sister Golden Hair, Man in the Box, Piano Man and Peggy Sue. I think I'm missing a song from the 60's so how about Roadhouse.

I'm not a kj, but I do get paid to sing...there are songs that I sing that are done to identify a change of pace...my gigs might traditionally start as quiet background but when I sing drift away for instance it signifies that I am about to get a little louder...rivers of babylon is one I will throw in if I want people on the dance floor.

my "signature" song comes later in the evening and is princes purple rain

Rip,
Most of the singalong type songs are the same ones that people often post on here that get sung nightly or they'd never like to hear again.

For example:
Sweet Caroline (i agree)
Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks
You Never Even Call Me By My Name - David Allan Coe

Usually just something popular that everybody knows.
My signature song is Lookin Out My Back Door - CCR.

In our very country area, three of the best are Mountain Dew, Rocky Top, and Diggin' Up Bones.

We often get these at the end of the night with everyone singing along:

Beatles - Hey Jude
Eric Idle - Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
Oasis - Champagne Supernova

And one venue has this one song. Just a regular song played and everyone sings along:

Aslan - Crazy World

Ok, so story behind it - the local KJ who used to play there played it every night, everyone on the estate has grown up with it being played. Now if I don't, I'd get lynched.

And worst part is, it's a crap song.

One of my shows it has become a tradition for me to choose a very fun "singalong" for everyone to sing for the last song of the night. Has been a blast I might say! I keep it a secret until they are up there ready to sing it, makes them stay til the end. The first night we did it, I played Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Went over very very well. Each week I choose a different song. Other weeks have been songs like, Friends in Low Places, We Will Rock You, Thunderstruck by AC/DC, Shout (Isley Brothers),,,the list goes on. I would be interested in a finding out some of you other "singalong" suggestions. And to find out if anyone else is doing a similar routine at the end of the night. For those of you who don't , ya might wanna try something like it,,,it's a totaly hoot!! Peace out ya'll!!!

When I had my shows last year, we ended the evening with "Goodnight, Sweetheart" as a sing along. People loved it and why I used it for every show is because all age groups liked it. Even my daugher's 20 something friends knew the song and joined in with gusto. Perhaps ShaNaNa accounts for such young 'uns being familiar with the number?

So... the song was a constant that everyone looked forward to doing. But.... I must give some thought to the idea of ending with two sing alongs ... one of the numbers TBA (to be announced) as Mr Scott does. Actually, I never actually announce what song I am doing. I just tell 'em to grab a mic!

Or perhaps they saw the movie "Three Men and a Baby". The three men sing that to the baby to get her to sleep. :D

Santeria and Rehab's " Sittin at a Bar " are a couple of songs that always seem to get the sing along going. My best friend does Rumpshaker and it always seems to get everyone singing the " Just shake ya butt " part.

Is that " Goodnight Sweetheart by David Kersch? I actually knew him, he became famous when he was playing with The Emotions, a dance hall circuit band here in south Texas my older brother played for years ago. He was a really nice guy. Rudy.

Just curious...

Is anyone here from Norway? If so, do you get a lot of people at your karaoke places singing "Sammen for Livet" ('80s "We are the World"-type of song)? I don't speak Norwegian, but I love that song--I first heard it in Europe in '85 and didn't find out what it was (or what language it was in) until recently, thanks to YouTube and another webpage called "Band Aid Around the World". Anyway, that sounds like it would be a good sing-along song (as evidenced by the many vids on YouTube w/people doing raucous sing-alongs and goofy lip-sync routines to it!)--but in my case, since I don't know the language, I'd have to just hum along! (That's what I do when I like a song and don't understand the language! :D )

I also found a song from Finland in the same vein called "Maksamme Velkaa". I really love that one also (even though, again, I don't know the language). I can just imagine a bunch of people in a pub or at a party swaying back and forth and singing along! :D

Boondock - Little Big Town is a great group sing. We'll have all 4 mics going and the crowd will be into. Mid song I'll spot someone singing their little heart out and let them have my mic. If done at the right time of the night it really gets the energy up to the next level.

"Santeria" is my room's most consistent sing-a-long. Since it's been done more than anything else over the years it's probably because we can all sing it from memory by now. I wonder what Bradley Nowell would have thought if he knew he had penned one of the definitive karaoke songs of his generation.

Well non-country one anyway.

"Sittin' At A Bar," although much newer, also gets throats to open though. Maybe because it's the perfect song to sing in a drinking establishment. And if the room allows it.

And if you're drinking.

There's still nothing like "Before He Cheats" for the women to all join in though.

Au contraire -- I consider I Will Survive the definitive woman's singalong. 8-)
