We'd like to throw a karaoke party at home, but we've never done so before. I know renting is probably the easiest way to go, but we'd rather not do that (we live rurally and so getting to a place that rents machines would be a hassle). We'd like to either get a karaoke machine or set it up on our computer. We wouldn't be doing this but a handful of times a year so we're not looking for the top of the line equipment or set-up, we just want something inexpensive, easy to use, reliable and fun.

Can anyone help with suggestions and recommendations for either set-up (machine or computer)?

Thanks!

If you post your budget, I am sure you will get some answers. But music costs a *lot*. You can run a party just on Supercore, depending on your age group.

Usually you can find a karaoke host to come in and do it for you for a couple-few hundred dollars. They will have the music library and everything you need.

Sometimes joining a streaming site is perfect for parties... just pay the membership fee, and you can stream whatever song you wish that's in their inventory.

What Knight said. Hook up everything to your PC/laptop and use it as a mixer while having output to your TV.

I hook my PC inputs up to a mixer and then the mixer into the A/V receiver. I use a small Yamaha mixer (MG82cx) that has compression and hook it up to the home theater system.Sound isn't as good as a show but it's easy, and simple. The compression prevents the screamers from blowing out your speakers and I can boot up the PC and be singing quick and easy. What you use for a source is entirely up to you from websites to software using disks or MP3+G files.

Great idea, never thought of that!

You didn't mention party size.

Here's an idea for a small room and maybe 20 people - Inexpensive.

This is the one and only time I will recommend a VocoPro machine- The Duet II. An all in one, 45W speakers per side with everything the occasional partier needs. Probably around $300 these days ( used to be around $450). Mics, player, small amp, EQ, Digital Keychange, echo, delay, separate mic volumes, master volume, music to vocals balance, record to cassette built in for momentos, AM/FM, and cassette as well as CD. It can run on AC, or you can run it out of your car ( or a power source in a blackout!).

Throw in the SuperCore set for music, attach to your TV, and you're covered.

For small areas only, but very good for that.

I would NOT recommend running through your home theatre.
