I am a new kj and the old system i have needs to be updated for bigger parties. I got a gig at a bar end of month.

I was looking at the VocoPro CDG-8800 Dual....VocoPro CDG-880 Pro....VocoPro DKP-10G... Any suggestions please?!?!

Also looking for speakers...Don't want to spend much..Small budget!

What is the budget you are talking? VocoPro stuff you will generally be disappointed in. Would be better to get some pro grade PA gear.

600 or under...I basically need everything for a good decent system. I do karaoke in small places. So i'm thinking i dont need crazy machines. But something to just play my cds and sound.

$600? A decent set of speakers can run up to $600 for a pair.
Would still recommend you look into something like a powered mixer & speakers or a small mixer & pair of powered speakers. Although you aren't going to really find a complete system with decent sound for $600 sorry to say - especially if you are going to be running in clubs. You can probably squeeze by if you up the budget to about $1000.

The most we'll do is karaoke at the bar..otherwise we do kids bday parties...so it's usually in a family size room. So speakers dont need to be loud. I'm more interested in what mixer/player. That's why i was looking at those voco players. I have a system but its one that has the player wit the speakers right in front. it's alittle annoying.

I just went through the same process looking for a good home karaoke starter system that is not too expensive so below is my suggestion for $600 budget system:

$300 Player:

Among the listed VocoPro players, I'd go with the VocoPro CDG-880 Pro ($300) as it is more versatile and comes with more features (DVD/DIVX/CD+G capable).
There may be better players out there in the same price range. Make sure to check/search on this forum for more recommendations from previous threads.

$300 Speakers:

Option #1:
You can get away with a pair of Behringer Bi-Amp Powered Studio Monitor B2031A (not the new B3031A which may be subjected to quality issues) which has good reviews among the users. These speakers are small and portable yet can be loud to fill a small room easily.

Option #2:
However, I'd recommend to just get one regular PA speaker such as the Bi-amp Powered 250w Kempton GT12A for $300 shipped (via online quote request @ rmcaudio.com - ask Erik). This speaker is made by the acclaimed Italian FBT company - comes with 2 yr warranty.
Not only it is very portable, it has also plenty of power and reported to sound as good as the more expensive JBL EON series or Mackie SRM series from the vdrums forum users. Better yet, it comes with two channels inputs with independent EQ so you can plug your player/mixer directly to the speaker and that should work just fine for your simple setup. Besides, you can always add a second speaker down the road as needed and that would give you more flexibility in the future.

# Frequency response: 50Hz - 20kHz @ -6dB
# 12" woofer, 2" coil, 1" driver, 1.4" coil

The peavey pr-series are price friendly and for the money and the light weight of them are decent speakers. I would stay with the pr-15 they will handle your low freq. much better than the pr-12.

Wildfins, how is he supposed to get the mike mix? go through the player. He'll be disappointed in the quality in doing so. I know because I worked at a bar that used the player's mike inputs for their mikes and it sounded terrible. I can mix with any system but that method is as bad as running an all in one unit with the speakers built into the player. something like the link below would be better for the sound system end of the purchase:

The Peavey Pr 15's are absolutely great and the light weight is fantastic if you are mobile

But it would also take up $440 of $600 budget for both the player & PA system. He'd be better off with the Phonics package linked above. Actually if he has a laptop, should just use that as the player then invest a little more on the PA system.
