I am considering a V2GO GO-300 all-in-one karaoke unit for small venue use. The specs look quite good and the price is right, but I cannot find much in the way of user ratings for this unit, or any V2GO products, with ethe exception of a DVD player sold by WalMart (that unit got good user ratings). I would appreciate any input, including reliability, functionality, and in the case of an all-in-one unit, how they sound.

Have never heard of that brand in my experience. So can't cooment on it. I went ot their website but could not find a "GO300" model, only a GO210 model. I would say that just by the size & specs on it, it would be too small for any kind of real club use - even small scale clubs, it does allow for it to be hooked up to a regular PA system, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the all in one.

Not familiar with that unit or model but typically these are not built for heavy regular use. The sound can be routed into a good PA system and doesnt sound that bad.

I would rec going computer. You dont need an expensive state of the art high powered computer. Use this with a small mixer and decent mics. With more info such as size of the venues and short range to long range goals I could advise you further but I would stay away from all in one integrated home type units.

I should mention that I am talking about singing in retirement homes where it is a small room and loudness isn't a priority. I do have a 100W RMS powered speaker I can add when necessary.

Here is the information on the GO-300 http://www.v2gokaraoke.com/english/GO300.html An interesting feature is the BBE processor to maximize the audio. It may be worthwhile, or it may be just a gimmick that doesn't really make it sound better.

I know I saw one in GC yesterday (the box anyway) and thought of this topic. I think it had echo, not reverb, but I'm not sure. Just didn't look good to me personally. There was an RSQ machine in the same area that might be ok, have no idea of price.

I live in a retirement center. Never have done karaoke here but if I did I would use my JBL Eon10 G2. Would go find a cheap small mixer in a hock shop or find one on Ebay and use a laptop. Your 100 watt will be fine.

They will not be judging the quality of sound but there will be ex musicians and singers there sometimes.

The V2GO is made in the same factory as Pioneer, and was one of the first players to incorporate a USB port for memory sticks. ( Pioneer was the other. Go figure)

I carry one as a backup. It has all the bells and whistles. I haven't had any problems with it. Though I don't think it would stand up to the kind of use I put my full time player through, I believe it would be just about perfect for your purposes.

Here is what I ended up with. I bought a V2GO GO-100 player for $100. It is just a player, no amp or speakers. For sound, I bought a Behringer K-1800FX. It is sold as a keyboard amplifier, but it is very suitable for music and vocals. It has 180W Peak powrer, a 12-Inch woofer and horn tweeter, a 4-channel mixer (one with XLR mic in) with individual effects sends on each mixer channel. The mixer has digital effects, including some good vocal reverbs. It also has a 7-band equalizer with a feedback detector. For $300, this Behringer unit really does the trick.

Though retirement homes like around a 75-80dBA sound level, this unit can easily exceed 95dBA in a medium sized party room.

I do have one issue with the V2GO player which I am addressing in a separate topic.

It is interesting that a lot of people do "warn" about Behringer equipment, though in my limited experience personally, and during my broadcast engineering career, I have found their gear to be reliable. I don't know if their lower cost causes a perception of low quality, or if Behringer, like Hyundai with their earlier cars, had an early period of poor quality that no longer applies. For instance, even though surveys say Hyundai now has top-notch quality, many people still think of their cars as sub-standard. That may be the case with Behringer. I really don't know.

I did research many user ratings on this particular amp and found substantially every review was very positive, both in performance and in reliability. I also found forum posting of Behringer users that were very happy with their stuff. Of course, I found forum posting of Behringer bashers, too. Without a impartial survey like J.D Power, Consumer Reports, or from an industry magazine, it is hard to tell if one brand is really more reliable than another. As to web forums, people are more likely to post their unhappiness with a piece of equipment than their happiness.

I do find the build quality (feel, fit, finish, materials, etc.) to appear very solid on this amp. But... to be sure, I bought a SquareTrade 3-year warranty. Though I usually don't go for extended warranties, I felt the $31 was a reasonable amount to pay should I end up with a "bad Behringer". Based on several surveys, SquareTrade has a very good reputation for prompt repair or a refund of your purchase price should the item fail during the extended warranty.

If you know of any industry surveys on audio gear, please let me know. I know PC magazine does computer gear, but I haven't run across one for audio gear.

It's usually personal experience that makes me rate it lower quality. I have never had any luck with Behringer products - mainly their mixers & speakers.

Ditto on the mixer, and a local KJ has that amp.
