Before i begin, i just want to say that I do karaoke parties for kids...It's mostly at their house in a regular size room. We also have a bar gig as well...So no big parties or areas. CAVS DVD-203G Karaoke Player (Black) w/USB Is the USB worth getting with this? I would like to be able to store my songs on the system. VOCOPRO DA-1055 Pro Professional 6 MIC Digital Echo Mixer/Parametric Equalizer Karaoke store guy said i need this...do i? Peavey PR 12 or 15....OR Kempton Audio GT12 or GTA??? I put together a system that I think would be fine for these parties...Any suggestions, substitutions, or anything? I am looking to spend 600 range i hope. Thanks a lot guys. |

You do need a mixer of some sort. The VocoPro mixer is not great. You can get a true mixing board for about the same price. There is a key changer on the player so the mixer does not need this part - which is typically what make a 'karaoke' mixer is the addition of a key changer. For the same price or close to it, take a look at: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=630156 - only two mic channels but much better sound & versatility over the VP. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... ku=630139V - even comes with a couple mic channels with compression - nice for karaoke. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=630166 - if you need a couple more mic channels Now all of these will blow the VP mixer away, all have built in digital effects over the basic built in echo of the VP. The PR15 are not a powered speaker, the other ones are, you will need some kind of powered speaker OR a separate amp with the Peavey PR15. thanks for your input. I am looking at those links now.. But, do i really need "powerful" speakers? the parties are mostly in houses or small size area...No reception hall or hotel ballroom. Karaoke guy said the kempton's would be best. Then i was asking him if i "really" needed the mixer? I have the vocopro colt and i never had to play with the knobs. Am i wrong? Just trying to save where I can. |

The cavs 203g usb would be a good choice,I like both of mine. but I can't comment on how reliable they are mine have only left the house a few times for family functions. The pr15 I also own these and have used them for frontals at a gig with my band.This gig was Tuesday night and the bar was small so no need for the sp4g and the sp18.(had bass,vocals,guitar and slight mix of drums)We also just did a gig with the pr15 as top frontals with the sp18 (due to the shape of the bar the sp4 wouldn't fit. This was about as hard as I would wan't to push them.Usaualy we use the pr-15 for drum monitors for a roland digital drums.They have more than exceeded my expectations.I don't think the pr-12 would hold the bottom end as well.I also have a pair of yamaha cm12 wich are great speakers but can't hold the bottom end as well as the pr-15. Your close to 600 duckets with the pr-15 and the caves 203g usb(which you would still need an external handdrive to store your music on). I used a powered mixer at the tuesday night gigs( mackie 808m) technicaly is under powered for these speakers but it worked just fine.The 808 is going to blow you budget of $600 but they make a 406m not sure how this would push the pr-15 but I would bet it would push the pr-12 just fine and at a lower cost. guitar center pr-15-$219 each pr-12-$169each zZsounds-406m-$419 Mackie 608-$669 Mackie Sorry for being so long winded but I was trying to give you some back ground on how and what I'm using with them. Yamaha mixers are also nice. |

Thank you very much...With the external drive needed to store music, how do i get them on in the first place? Does the cav 203g actually copy the disc for you onto a usb? Thanks! |

I own 3 203-G's, 2 in my show, one with USB. The USB is worth having. It gives you a variety of options. I am currently not using an external hard drive on mine. I have a friend who is using an external HD, and he likes it. I know everyone here hates VocoPro. I use a KJ-7800Pro mixer, and go into a Crown Amp. I have been using it for 3 years with great results. It has never let me down, and it is great to have the video mix simultaniously with the audio automagically. Felix the KJ
