| Post subject: | Lexicon MPX110 Effects to Yamaha MG124CX Mixer Connection? |
Although it is a fine overall mixer, I'm not very satisfied with the vocal effects from my Yamaha MG124CX Mixer . (usually use 3 Shure SM58 mics, Mackie SRM450 powered speakers). Would like to try a recently acquired Lexicon MPX110. How would I connect it to the Yamaha MG124CX Mixer? I am primarily interested in effects for the vocals. Have read manuals but remain confused as to proper set-up connections. Thanks!

Main line out L&R of the Lexicon to a stereo channel strip on the mixer and Aux Send on mixer to input mono on Lexicon. NOTE: make sure the aux return of the selected channel strip is turned OFF, otherwise you'll create a loop 
This option allows you to use the eq on the input of your mic

Thanks.....I'll give it a try. Will I then be also able to overlay Yamaha effects over Lexicon imputed effects if I wished to? |

Instead of AUX out, you should use FX Send. But otherwise it is the same. I don't use stereo out of my Lexicon, just mono, but you can use both if you wish.
The on-board effects processor has it's own return, so yes you can use both units. |

Of course, each channel strip has the "effect" level which controls the on board DSP and the Aux level will control your external Lexicon

If you use AUX for effects, you have no monitor option. That is why it is customary to use FX, which is really just another AUX. I suppose you could use your FX send for a monitor...

Use the Effect send from the mixer. Run it to the "left" input on the MPX - this is a mono input. You can run a stereo return from the MPX either to the return L/R - to the left of the send jack, OR you can run each to it's own channel allowing you to be able to eq the effects as well as send them to the monitors if desired. Plus being the MPX is a multi effect unit, you can put a delay on one fader & a reverb on another when it's in a dual mode. As for the onboard effects, you can simply turn them off in the effects master section on the mixer so they will just be bypassed. On the mixer is an effect send knob to the right of the meter, this will need to be turned up, probably to about 10-12 oclock. If you use the Aux return jacks, then these knobs will also need to be turned up, probably about the same amount. Then on the vocal channels, you can set the effects via the Effect knob. On the MPX, turn both the input to about 12 oclock to start, mix full right, output full right. If the red clip lights light on the MPX when a signal is going through, the effect knob - either on the channel or the effect send will need to be turned down until it no longer lights, you can compensate the volume of the effect by the Aux return or fader of the particular effect. Remember you just want enough effect to not really hear, but enough to know if it wasn't there. |
