Hi folks, I get a problem now. Please help me. I will go to China and want to take my Fender Passport 250 with me by air. It is very heavy, maybe 50 pounds or so. I decide to buy a passport Travel Pack for 250 PA, and take it as a carry-on baggage. However, I am not familiar with the baggage regulation of airline. Does it work? Will I be charged an extra fee? Or is there any better and economic way to send my pa to china? Thank you in advance. |

Most airlines will have their baggage allowances shown either on the ticket or their website. In general, it's 15 lb limit for carry-on, and there are dimension restrictions too... can't imagine I'd like to be the one sitting under 50 lb of anything when it falls out of the overhead locker! Checked baggage usually allows up to 50 lb before incurring extra baggage fees... the Fender 250 would probably fit withing the dimensions allowed for checked baggage.... BUT, there is also a prohibited items list which includes magnetic material, which you would have to consider (speakers?). Best check with your airline as you would probably also have to declare to them that your checked baggage includes electronic equipment (some airlines may decide not to accept such items). |

I don't think it will fit in the overhead or under the seat. I'm not familiar with the travel case mentioned, but I would recommend putting it in some sort of hardshell flight case to survive the baggage handlers. |

Years ago I had a video proc fail and the RCA engineer was coming out and the only option he had was buying a seat for Mr Proc. He hand carried Mr Proc aboard and strapped him in the adjacent seat. true Story.... |

I agree that the 250 will not fit overhead or under the seat. The 150 may fit but not 250. You will have to check it in advance or at the door. |

I first thought the question was joke. I own a PD250 and I can assure you it is not going to be allowed in the passenger compartment, based upon its dimensions and weight, unless you purchase a ticket for it. And if you don't want to purchase a ticket, I suggest you construct or have someone build a box around the thing out of corrugated cardboard. Then have it placed in the baggage compartment at virtually no cost. Make sure you have homeowners coverage before you leave, though if it is being used for business purposes the policy maybe null and void if something happens to it in China or on the way there. And... I don't know how much coverage the airlines provide while they have control over the property? |
