I went into a pawn shop today and saw a pair of these with onstage tripod stands for 300 bucks. What do you think? Worth it or not?

If you don't want them I will buy them from you. I offer $500 for the pair you can make $200. I sure you could get more but I thought I would put the offer out there.

If they are in decent physical condition and internally sound, that's a steal. I own a pair and they are very good speakers. Retail they are like $429 EACH, the stands are worth $50-$75. New those speakers with the stands are around $1,000 with sales tax and I know someone who payed that. Properly used they will last decades. They are much easier to lift on to stands than most other comparable speakers too at only about 32 pounds each.

I just looked at the title and they are the SXa100 powered speakers. Those go for around $679 each brand new. I have the passive Sx100+.
No need for a separate amplifier with the Sxa100+ which lightens your load in and can save you anywhere from $300 - $700 if you don't need to buy an amp.
In good condition those speakers are easily worth $300 each.

By the way. If you do get them, you'll be surprised by how much bass those speakers put out. For most small to medium sized restaurants or bars, a pair of those speakers is all you need. If you want to kick it up a notch, add a small subwoofer to make your sound a bit fuller. But you can do fine without the sub too. Those speakers crank and vocals are very clean and clear.

Never herd an EV speaker that I wasn't thrilled with, and the price is right. Take 'em!

Ok so I went back to find out the real deal then. Here goes:
Pawn shop guys knows they retail for 679 each. He bought em from a guy 3 months ago for 600 total and sold em that week for 700. The guys brought them back because he said the woofers didn't work on lows. Thats why they are 300 just to get rid of them. I buy as is, no return.
I said can I bring something in to test em, and he said yeah but if they work, they wont be 300 anymore. I am not an electronics guru, so if they're broken outside of something very simple, I can't fix em. He's not sure if they are truly broken, and isn't sure whether the guy said lows or hi drivers (he was oriental and didn't speak english well). He also said he isn't sure the guy just didn't hook them up wrong, which stands to reason if both amped speakers are out.
Externally, they look near mint condition, not a scratch!
So basically, it's a 300 dollar gamble that pays off big if they work fine, but I'm out if they dont. Now, once again, opinions?

It's a sucker bet -- any pawn shop guy I know will have tested the unit.

The replacement speakers for those are quite expensive. The pawnshop guy is an a$$ if he wants to charge you more after you test them and they work fine. Find out how much they are if there is nothing wrong. You can test them easily with an mp3 player and a cable or with a laptop and a cable-using a small mixer would be even better.
I would test one at a time and listen closely to both the top and bottom speakers at different volume settings. Also check to see if they are getting warm on the back where the amp heat sink is located. If you're not that knowledgeable about this it may not be the deal for you. This may be for for someone with lots more experience who knows how to swap out components. It could be the amp that is bad? Who knows?

If the driver is blown, it's a simple replacement issue - being they said both cabs are dead in the lows, willing to bet someone just turned them up too loud & blew the drivers. If the electronics are blown, you would need to bring them in to have them serviced.
You wouldn't necessarily have to use the actual EV drivers to replace with - although desired. There are several other brands that would work fine that aren't as expensive. These would be more than suitable for replacements.

May be still worth picking up even if you needed to reload.

Sorry. I don't agree at all. Those Alphas with 20oz magnets are not in the same league as the drivers that come loaded in those EVs, not even close. Putting in an alpha as a replacement is a waste. Might as well just buy a pair of inexpensive speakers new. It'll be about the same, probably better. If the OP has to pay someone to put in decent quality replacement speakers, he's looking at investing in the ballpark of $150-$200 per cabinet. At this point he doesn't even know what's wrong or if there IS anything wrong so we're guessing.

Thats the thing, it's a crapshoot! I don't need them, but if there is nothing wrong and were just adjusted improperly it's a great deal.
I'm not saying I'm a dunce. Mechanically, I am very good at things and could easily fix a simple issue and I probably have all the tools to do so. Electronically, I might notice a clear internal issue as a frayed or loose wire, or could solder something obvious back together, but might not know th internal workings to fix a component. I could probably easily fix a component too if it were a whole unit to be taken out or replaced.
The problem is, they are as is, no return, for that price. I might be able to fix it, might not, and can't test it to see whats wrong for the 300 price. It's just a gamble.
I might buy and find nothing wrong, then they are awesome. Question is, if there is something wrong, could I replace the components for reasonable amount or sell them to someone who could and not lose money.
Dilemma! I wouldn't even consider if it wasn't such a deal.

Agree, an RCF driver at least would be closer to the EV driver

EV uses Eminence drivers in some of their cabs. It's not that bad of a replacement!
