Post subject:  CDG Text Editor?

Is there software out there that will allow me to change the text of an existing CDG file? There are a few "twisted tunes" I have in mind, but I am not sure what application would be good for this.

Suggestions?

Although I have never personally used it, I think the premier software in this area is CDGFIX. http://www.cdgfix.com/

They have a freeware version with fewer features, in addition to the latest version for a fee.

As usual, Michaelangelo is correct. swoop knows the program really well and is the one who has mentioned it frequently. It does a lot more than what you're asking about too. I was thinking about getting it to convert my CAVS SCDG discs to regular CD+G files. The program is $80. It's pretty complicated and it takes a while to learn. I tried the demo and there is a learning curve. Take a look at the demo.

Learning curve? OMG, this is the most horrid thing I've ever seen! Please tell me there is another program, that is a little more intuative.

It will take creating a whole new karaoke track but while MTU's Karaoke Producer is easy enough, powerkaraoke has the easist by far of the karaoke producers. There are no other editors like cdgfix from my perspective. I mioght be wrong but I don't they are any easier than CDGFIX. The producers I named are easier by far than CDGFIX. Powerkaraoke contains a wizard that takes you through each process from text to syncing the lyrics.

I think Danny's right. The problem is that CDG files are graphic not text. That is to say that it is a picture of the words and not the typed words themselves. In order to edit the words the program would have to be aware of what the letters are and that is tricky without knowing the font and size etc, let alone knowing how a CDG file is read in the first place. I don't believe that there is enough of a market to make development of an application profitable.

On the other hand, if twenty of you would like to promise to pony up fifty bucks each for such an editor should I get it to work and are willing to help test it, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Changing the Text on Commercial CDG Tracks...

Don't care to open that "Legality" door!

Can it be done? Yep, if you know what your doing!

If you know the tune very well and you are just trying to create a song parody, creating a cdg file from scratch would probably take less time than trying to change words one at a time with CDGFIX. Just copy and paste the lyrics from the web, change the words that need to be changed and then use one of the many karaoke producer programs to create the cdg file. Then just add the mp3 file of the original song to the newly created cdg file in the same folder. Make sure they are named identically and then play the new song in winamp.

Karafun has an editor that looks to be fairly easy to work. I have it installed and have opened it to view features but never used it to make the demented ditty lyrics. Looks pretty easy though.

Ok, I took 5 minutes and tried it out. It's pretty brain dead simple. Go here to grab it:

Another option would be use powerkaraoke to convert to a movie, then insert slides where needed.

Overlay the Lyrics... Yep, that's what I'd do!
Much Faster!
